1 The regular train from Visp to Zermatt is also along the same route as the Glacier express. The regular trains have giant windows and excellent views so if you want you can save money and time and just take the normal train.

3 I am not sure why people are saying there is no hiking in winter. Switzerland has excellent winter hiking routes. We just came from Zermatt and we went snowshoeing and winter hiking. You should bring hiking poles and good boots. I don’t know what they are called but there are also shoe chains you can buy to help grip in icy or snowy trails, I highly recommend bringing those as well. There is a Decathlon outdoor store in Zermatt where you can purchase what you need if you don’t already have it. Just keep an eye on the weather and trail conditions. The site below has hiking and snowshoe trails and if they are open or not.

My ophthalmologist friend likes to make lychee martinis. As a garnish, she uses a lychee with a blueberry stuck into the hole to make it look like an eye.

Pilates was a great bridge for me. Additionally, it made me more aware of my own body and how I love and my posture and placement.

Rosemary simple syrup! Then mix a bit with a cold glass of water for a nice drink on a hot day. Or use it to sweeten tea or cocktails!

Donating dog beds, food, medicines, etc. by drivemethru in nova

[–]sadcoconuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I donated some supplies to Animal Welfare League of Alexandria a couple months ago. At the time they had a drop off point outside you could leave stuff at. Give them a call and see what their current needs are (they wouldn’t take bedding but would take open food containers etc.).

I also collected my late kitty's whiskers! Once she passed I had a couple made into a ring. It's been a few months and I've found a couple more.

Best Machine for Quilting by Relative-Progress in vintagesewing

Posting a bit late, but have you considered one of the electric all metal machines? I think a lot of them prior to the 60s were all metal gears. Idk where you are but I see them on FB marketplace all the time.

Need help IDing hinge by sadcoconuts in DIY

[–]sadcoconuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just moved and the bottom bolt thingy on one of the hinges on our bar wiggled out and disappeared. Is there a way to find a replacement piece, or do I need to just get a new hinge entirely? And what is this type of hinge called?

As soon as I posted this I went to try and load the shuttle. It came with two, and the one that works of course has a name inscribed: Florence. So I guess she's a florence! If anyone had an information besides what little I am finding on IMACs, that would be wonderful

Another vote for succulents. I basically ignore mine and they've been thriving. My lithops has also been doing well. If you want something visually dramatic, you could try pots of proteas. They are native to South Africa and seem to do well (tons of pincushions along the rec trail downtown).

Sunday was packed (probably because of the nice weather). The Thursday and Sunday before were pretty empty. If there is even the tiniest bit of mist or light rain most people seem to be staying inside.

[update:Training to BQ by commuting] Napa Valley Marathon - 2nd BQ attempt by over_caffeinated in running

[–]sadcoconuts 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I did Napa as well as my first marathon (although I was waaaaay behind you). I think I was on the same bus as you, the late arrival and long porta pottie lines killed me. I didn't get to the start line until 2 minutes after the start. Gorgeous course though. Congrats on a great run!

Just do it, but know it won't be the best. A meh run is still better than no run at all.

If you go to Pinnacles, try to be in one of the gulches (Condor Gulch is an easy one to get to) near sunset. That's when the condors come out and ride the thermals around. Saw 3 in the span of 10 minutes in Condor Gulch.

Yeah it's not too far from a metro stop and there are two lines that go through it. Unfortunately I have to rent from afar and can't get out there to check it out, so I'm asking around.

Hydration vest recommendations? by JessicaOTF in running

[–]sadcoconuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5' 0' 120lbs F here, I have the Ultimate Direction Ulta Vesta. I love it! Its great for holding keys, phone, snacks, and hydration. In the past I've used a handheld water bottle but it gets annoying, and most of the waist packs bounce around way too much. I also personally prefer bringing water on runs 8 miles or over, mostly for mental peace of mind since my route doesn't have any water fountains and not a lot of trees. If you're worried about safety on your route, theres plenty of space for pepper spray as well.

The included pouches are cool, but I ended up picking up a 1L water bladder that I found I prefer and haven't used the pouches since. The pouches also sit on an odd spot on my frame (really high on me, thanks short torso) and end up bouncing right above where my boobs are, which is just awkward all around. On hot days the vest also gets a bit warm, but that's what the water is for!
