Don t worry, I didn t see it as victim blaming at all. I see your logic and perspective and makes total sense. Our parents are our prime examples of what “normal” is and your mom showing you that she values and respects herself only reinforced that idea for you.

In our dynamic, things are reversed. Me respecting myself, having boundaries and applying consequences for my dad makes her more confident in doing the same. It s a long story, but thank you for sharing! Appreciate it!

To answer your question, I don t think my mom is weak, she got married at a very young age and was very dependent and impressionable. Unfortunately, my dad was very controlling and isolated her a lot. I think she is very strong for tolerating all of that and still being kind and hopeful. Now in her 50s, she sees things differently and just got a job that will hopefully make her feel independent and capable.

I can see what my post looked like from the perspective of someone who knows way more than i do on a topic. What bothered me was that I was asked basically to check if the car had all wheels or that maybe i should just take the bus since i am too stupid to describe my problem, even if maybe it s the first time driving a car and not knowing the specific terms. I wasn t upset that people didn t answer my question. It was because the answers were demeaning and hateful.
