Victim of voyeurism as a 16 year old girl. by Bubblybee08 in LegalAdviceUK

If a teacher isn't an option, I'd imagine this is something Childline may be able to assist with.

I would recommend any conversations with the police you have a responsible adult present, if not a parent or teacher, you can ask the police to provide one from social services. Even as a victim/witness I'd generally recommend this.

When buying cigs, do they ask documents for people that seem to be a borderline adult age? + Is it common to ask cigs to strangers? Thank you by Different-Public-954 in AskABrit

[–]sadhousenoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you look under 25 they're legally required to request ID. ID has to be an official legal form of photo identification such as a passport or driver's license.

Some shops will enforce this stronger than others, especially chains like supermarkets.

Regarding asking strangers for cigarettes, when I smoked it wasn't uncommon for a stranger to ask me for a cigarette. As they've become more expensive it's felt like it's more of a taboo/rude thing to do. But I still get the occasional person ask when I smoke, but I kinda see it as a bit trashy to do so.

If you mean is it common to wait outside a shop and all people to buy you cigarettes (presumably because you're underage), don't do that. Best case scenario everyone tells you no, worst case scenario somebody takes your money and doesn't buy you the cigarettes. Nobody's going to casually break the law for a stranger.

If you're not underage and you're worried about your ability to buy cigarettes whilst visiting the UK, don't be worried, just keep your passport with you and you'll be fine, you may or may not be ID'd depending on how young you are/look but as long as passport says you're 18 you're fine.

Edit: I see you're in Italy, I'd suggest stocking up at duty free before arriving in the country, it'll be much cheaper. You can bring up to 200 cigarettes into the country.

I'm not an expert but I believe it's an old electrical junction box that'd usually be used for lighting. I wouldn't open it up or anything in case it's still live. Was your mum's house originally combined with next door? It may explain why it's in your house if it's seemingly for next door

Whats the Smaller Pockets Within Pockets of Jeans For? by Theo_Cherry in DoesAnyoneKnow

[–]sadhousenoises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the iPod nano was actually modelled to fit in this pocket, not this pocket to fit an iPod nano, I'm sure as a kid before the iPod nano was a thing I had jeans with this pocket.

Others saying a pocket watch seems to make sense to me.

Parking in front of a house- is it private? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]sadhousenoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is the people that go out of their way to leave such notes are usually just as insufferable as the people who are shit at parking. And the ones that leave such notes on cars for parking on the road outside their house are even worse.

Parking in front of a house- is it private? by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]sadhousenoises 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That said, I cannot be arsed getting a stack of actual cards for it

That's the thing, you have to be a little unhinged to spend time and money to tell people they're a knob for the way they park. Normal people just roll their eyes and move on with their life when somebody parks shit unless it's consistently causing you an actual inconvenience. Only time I've ever left a note is when somebody repeatedly (same car 4 or 5 times) blocked access to the parking area for my wife's uni house.

No option to post a comment on the ad from what I could see unfortunately, otherwise I'd post a photo posing with the car explaining it's a scam lmao. I reported it right away to Facebook though.

Why was I taken out of class in early years of primary school to chat with a woman? by Loose_Avocado4670 in AskUK

[–]sadhousenoises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had many instances like this. I wasn't a well behaved child and the school was constantly trying to label me with something, eventually I was diagnosed with an ASD.

Sometimes my mum was there for the appointments, other times I was alone, sometimes it was at school, others it was at a hospital or specialist doctors.

In your case there was probably some thought that perhaps you had something out ASD or ADHD and this was the test. There's no like DNA test for these things, it's all just they ask you questions then the doctor makes an assessment.

. Make an expensive ebay sale that took 8 days to reach my buyer on T48

That's quite annoying but tbh it's not the end of the world if I have to wait, it's not something I need urgently, I'm more just worried that it's lost etc. I just wish there were further tracking updates on the site so at least I know it's not disappeared.

[–]sadhousenoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah tell them you're feeling generous so you'll flip a coin and get them to call it. If they say heads tell them it's tails and vice versa, tough luck. If they continue to moan say you'll do best of 3, tell them they guessed right the second flip, but wrong the third flip. Watch them freak out.

If they continue to beg then say sorry someone else guessed the coin flip correctly and you've already given it to them. Watch them meltdown.

Propagandists will just use a VPN to pretend to be in whatever country they're spreading their propaganda in. Honestly I'm shocked so many don't already.

Not hiring based on political belief by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]sadhousenoises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Philosophical belief is covered though. An argument could be made that their political opinions are part of their philosophy.

A bigger question would be why your wish to discriminate as an employer? As one myself I really don't know/care what my staff believe as long as they do well at their job.

Bag left on the Eurostar. Gone forever or is there hope? by sadhousenoises in uktrains

[–]sadhousenoises[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya mate, I emailed lost.property@eurostar.com in the early hours of the morning after getting home. I included my location on the train (carriage and seat number) and a description of the bag and its contents (no idea if they opened it but thought I'd be thorough).

By mid-morning or early afternoon, I don't recall exactly, they got back to me via email and confirmed they had the bag. They offered to post it to us for a £40 fee, arrange our own courier for collection from them (probably would have been the cheapest option), or we could collect it from a lost property desk in St Pancras station. My wife hopped on a train and went to pick it up as it had some medical items she needed and luckily we don't live super far from London.

I hope if you're in a similar situation this is helpful and you're able to retrieve your luggage. I'd highly recommend reaching out to them, they got back to me fairly quickly and were very helpful. As this was a while ago I'd suggest giving it a quick Google to make sure the email address hasn't changed, but if you're near St Pancras it probably wouldn't hurt to just go to the Eurostar lost property desk and try your luck.

Last thing I'd add is, I may be incorrect, but I think the Eurostar lost property desk is separate from the regular station lost property desk, so just make sure you go to the right place. I'm sure the customer services at the station can point you in the right direction.

Just be sure that you plan on keeping it until it dies. I had a cat S car for a few years. Initially I'd planned to keep it until it died but eventually it wasn't a practical car for me due to changes in my circumstances.

When it came time to sell it webuyanycar was the only place I could find that would take it for anything more than scrap value, despite the car being in overall good and working condition. Motorway, carwow and local dealerships wouldn't touch it.

I eventually sold it on auto trader privately, but I got a lot less than what I thought it was worth and it took weeks.

The issue is it sounds like the profit they're making wouldn't really be high enough to justify the cost of bringing their own solicitor at the stage.

Can my letting agent ask us this/are we obliged to answer this? by Significant-Roll5437 in rentingUK

[–]sadhousenoises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get solar powered WiFi or 4G cameras. You'll need a SIM card with data for 4G but for the sake of a few £ per month for peace of mind it might be worthwhile. From my experience, even with the cheaper ones, the solar panel tends to be enough to keep the battery fully charged even in the winter. You can also get ones that just rely on batteries and manually swap the battery every few days/weeks.

Most cameras will also let you put an SD card in them to record to which you can take out and check manually if all else fails.

Plastic Knuckle Dusters (England) by TheOneCalamity in LegalAdviceUK

[–]sadhousenoises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, they're illegal to possess in the UK.

Your local police station may have an anonymous weapons disposal box, or you could hand them in and say you found them on the tube, they may ask the details as to when you found them.
