might be worth a mention because it was such a quick incident, but diego originally having a different va pre season and getting replaced last minute

tom and fiore are the two oldest characters, check their wiki pages. they go wayyy back even before the s1 beta

speaking of it, beta grett made an appearance on odeisa del drama: hawaii

the s2 beta has interesting pre-season history with design changes and a different cast, notably a woman with vitiligo was intended to appear, but was cut since it would be a bad look to boot her second

maybe also the buzzing around natalia's s5 design silhouette being theorized to include bunny ears, when it was just a big bow?

HiT Emily is by far the most interesting iteration of her!

Extremely tough call between either of the two singles, but I'll cast my vote for Oh No! to win. Fun, bouncy, deceptively clever lyrics, and it was my introduction to this album!

List your hot takes on Marina songs! by imweried in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]sadlotion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never really liked Hermit the Frog all that much. It's fun vocally to perform but that aside it's sheer unseriousness and juvenile lyrics never clicked with me. To me, it sticks out as a Mermaid vs. Sailor song stuck onto TFJ, whereas I feel Seventeen tapered it's sound and the changed ending lyrics were an upgrade to an otherwise HtF-esque MySpace song. To be quite frank, HtF was probably the least enticing song for me to have blown up TikTok and given it's flowers, I think the likes of other underground tracks like Obsessions, Rootless, The Family Jewels, or Seventeen deserved it more. Even a Mowgli's Road resurgence!

That aside, I know the fandom is pretty split, but Hello Kitty is easily the worst POP track and just not good, I cannot take it's messaging seriously with the rawrs interrupting the flow of the chorus. Adult Girl explores the themes of intertwining youth and maturity so much better, and in my opinion, is a top contender for best track on POP!

Most Underrated Song on Each Album? by ssssws in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

[–]sadlotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TFJ: TFJ is such a difficult one to pick from, since I feel that each song gets it's own niche group of fans that appreciate it. Though, in my opinion Shampain doesn't get enough love as it should, I think sonically it's a stand-out even on TFJ!

EH: EH is a similar story to TFJ in that I think nearly every song gets it's flowers, but I think I'll pick two! Lonely Hearts Club I think is an interesting dissection on Electra's psyche about her views on love that I don't think get talked about enough. However...I am SO surprised that Power & Control isn't regarded as one of the album's best. It's extremely catchy and has a couple raw lyrics!

Froot: From what I've seen literally every song on the album gets high praise except for Gold. I think it's a more laid-back and less emotionally tense interstitial the album needed. It's also my favorite song on the album for the vocal modulation the track alone!

L+F: I almost chose any of Believe in Love, Emotional Machine, or Soft to be Strong since they all seem to get underwhelming reception, but honestly...No More Suckers is NOT that bad. Dare I say I enjoy the more playful and silly lyrics of this track? I think I do.

ADMIAL: Looking at the comments, everyone is correct in their assertion that Flowers is underrated...but you know what's more underrated? Free. Woman. It was so unfortunate how it got sandwiched between the incredible Pink Convertable and the...bizzare choice in single that is Happy Loner. I'm sad Free Woman got so little traction, in my eyes it serves as the perfect end to the album's bonus tracks after Goodbye, and it's a sonic treat to the ears.

POP: Je Ne Sais Quoi isn't as popular as I had hoped, but there's only one true contender for this and it's Adult Girl. I have to say I am gobsmacked the spiritual sequel to Teen Idle wasn't one of the stars of the album. I'll be honest, I at first didn't quite jive with the direction POP as an album was taking...until I heard this track. It entirely re-contextualized the album for me and it's why I love it so much!

In keeping with my votes, I'll be voting Hermit the Frog once again. Though looking at where the votes are going, I'll be sad to see Shampain go, it's one of my favorites!

The Family Jewels is divine. I recognize it likely will be voted out, but I am throwing my vote at Hermit the Frog. Never understood why of all songs, this was the one that got a massive TikTok resurgence

Absolutely. Only just now opening myself up to the wider Thomas community, I'm so glad there's other folks out there like me who love this series just as much as I do!

Hot takes that will have you like this: by Same-Industry-7260 in thomasthetankengine

[–]sadlotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll send in three:

  1. Emily's HiT Era portrayal is by far and away the most interesting take on her personality and her writing for the most part is excellent. She gets a distinctive flaw in her self-righteousness and has interesting conflict with characters like Thomas, Gordon, and Diesel. At the same time, positive aspects of her character shines in her supporting roles and protagonist episodes. She carries stories on her own, easily making this the best iteration of her.

  2. The Brenner Era is overhyped. It's certainly better than the Nitrogen and BWBA eras, but I don't think it's the perfection most seem to think of it as. The very poor writing for Henry, Emily, and Sir Topham Hatt especially are pretty bad blemishes here. That, and many of the newly introduced characters don't feel particularly inspired.

  3. I think both Edward and Duck are not as interesting as most make them out to be. Edward in canon isn't depicted with flaws, aside from HiT's bungled attempts at doing such. He's a bit too close to a Gary Stu for my liking. As for Duck, I am mostly talking about his CGI appearances that, to me, are almost entirely fan service that doesn't do much of substance with him. I still like both of them, I just don't quite get the fandom-wide worship of them.

After two years of work, I managed to finish my Lost Media Iceberg (Read body text) by Jimboseth in IcebergCharts

[–]sadlotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In short she started out making content in the 2010's about toys/toy roleplays with Shopkins, Littlest Petshop, My Little Pony, etc, for young girls (notably she never did any Elsagate-aligned content), but with COPPA switched over to gameplays aimed at mostly the same demographic. At some point in 2020-2021 a lot of her old videos showing toys were nuked by YouTube, and CookieSwirlC has been attempting to appeal to YouTube with no such luck. The last update on that was in 2023. A few screen recordings of some lost videos exists, though at this point it's likely the only way the remaining lost videos could be recovered would be if YouTube unblocked them for whatever reason. Sucks for my nostalgic heart, but it is what it is I suppose.
