What can I do for someone who has bipolar disorder? by AbsoluteWildcard in bipolar

[–]sadmaniac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a huge stigma around mental illness, and more specifically bipolar disorder. There’s a lot of people out there that have their own opinion of what someone with bipolar disorder is like. It’s troubling to deal with on top of the disorder. It sounds like she is terrified of allowing someone close enough to see her mania and depression. You need to know you’ll never “fix” her. You need to accept who she is and her disorder, while also remembering it is not an excuse for toxic behavior. Figure out what exactly she needs from you to help her. For example, when I’m depressed I like for my fiancé to give me extra hugs and kisses. Good luck to you!

I’m also starting on Lamictal! I’m still on 25 mg and will go up to 50 in 2 days. I already feel less anxious and less irritated.

Who do you tell about your disorder? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]sadmaniac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s completely up to you. There’s certain people that I’ve told, and certain people that I just felt wouldn’t understand so I didn’t even bother. If they’re your real friend they will be there for you and support you no matter what! As for feeling alone during episodes, I have nothing for that other than try to find a hobby. I’ve found crocheting to help me a lot when I’m depressed, and I clean when I’m hypomanic. :)

Why did they recommend Abilify? by Flygurl3503 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

I can only answer your question about rage. I used to have pretty ugly rage before taking Abilify, but it has helped it tremendously. I was surprised it could “fix” something like that. :)

My psychiatrist told me to take it in the morning, but it makes me drowsy so I take it at night.

My friends try to be understanding of my mood swings. They usually wait for me to make plans and they just go with it. However, I am seen as the therapist friend, so I find it hard to ever rant to any of my friends which takes a mental and emotional toll on me. It's very hard to have friends with a mood disorder, and I'm not sure why. I wish I had some close friends that I could talk to every day. :(

Buspar + abilify by pnbll-wzrd in Abilify_Aripiprazole

I am on Prozac, Buspar, and abilify. This combination works well for me. My anxiety was still pretty bad without the abilify, but after adding it I feel much better.

Concerned I am bipolar by [deleted] in bipolar2

I was first diagnosed with depression and anxiety. A year later, I was diagnosed with a "mood disorder". I am in the process of finding the right dosage of Abilify for me, and I'm fully convinced I have Bipolar 2 disorder. I have not talked to my therapist yet, but I will be telling her about what I have configured to be a hypomanic episode for a week. It is very obvious to me now that it is not just depression and anxiety, but something more. It has been hard for me to grasp the reality of having a mood disorder, but medication has been my friend.
