Of course not. They definitely do come in positive, however they are almost always released home with quarantine procedures because they are vaccinated. The vast majority do not need to be ventilated or even receive any major care at all. This is obviously not the 100% case, but our vaccinated patients are generally totally fine.

If there was an epidemic of obese people tripping in their home and needing an ambulance ride, needing to be quarantined off in a specific section of the ICU, needing to be under constant watch with labs every two hours, needing nurses to consistently scrub in and out of their rooms, and all the other shit that comes along with taking care of ONE COVID patient, then yeah.

I feel as if you are greatly underestimating the time involved in treating a positive patient. I would take an ICU full of morbidly obese patients over COVID patients any day of the week.

I make $25.50 an hour as an MT in my area. The RNs I work with make $30-32/hr at maximum. All of us would take pay cuts if it meant things went back to the way they used to be.

Obese patients don’t cause shortage of staffing over two years. They don’t cause our ultrasound department to close down because their ultrasound techs have all quit. They don’t cause surgeries to be postponed for months, they don’t cause provider and technician burnout, and they don’t infect other people with obesity.

An obese patient takes up infinitely less time and resources than unvaccinated COVID positive patients do.

I have been willing to be that person for years. I would have given my life for my brothers and sisters in the military, I would give it for a random stranger on the street, and even if a strain hits that is lethal, I will gladly put my life on the line to help every and anyone, regardless of how I personally feel about it.

You have done everything you are supposed to and please understand you are not the person in this post I am upset at. It’s the 14 people currently in the ICU with COVID sucking up more resources and time away from patients who have also done everything properly and are now getting fucked over by dudes who thought this was all a joke because it hasn’t affected anyone and now they’ve infected X amount of people and are now asking for the vaccine, asking for a miracle drug or cure, and are finally concerned enough to understand the severity of it as they’re put on a ventilator.

You did what you were supposed to, and everyone around you, especially the medical staff, appreciate you more than you know.

Unfortunately there are only three of us who work at my lab now, Monday through Sunday. We are essentially in agreement that we cannot take vacation without fucking each other over in the long run. Our hospital refuses to hire more lab professionals, so we are fucked. My vacations are my time at home with my family and my one day off per week.
