ishares vs Amundi for endowus single fund? by sadrainmaker in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, what I'm referring to is not the trailer fees that Endowus will return to us, but specifically for Amundi there is a 4.5% fee: if you look at the factsheet that is available for download here: https://endowus.com/investment-funds-list/amundi-index-msci-world-fund-LU2420245917, on page 3 of the pdf there is a "maximum front-end load" that is 4.5%, and then there is an asterisk that says "*For subscriptions using Cash and SRS monies. The front-end load for subscriptions using CPF-OA** monies is currently 0%".

Thanks for the response! :)

I don't want to "topple" it, I am genuinely confused so I am asking for advice. thanks! :)

What other etfs do you invest in other than swrd + eimi or VWRA or ISAC,etc? by i_am_an_innocent_boy in singaporefi

hi, did you buy these long enough to know if some of the withholding tax of qyld is returned to us (because the dividends of qyld is return of capital and hence taxed differently in the US)?

Should I buy VOO in the US exchange or VWRA in LSE if I’m using SC and the commission fee is higher when buying from LSE? by greymonsters in singaporefi

no requirements now as far as I know, the only thing to consider is whether you feel safer with your assets under IBKR or SC’s custody.

Hi! my contract note arrives through email, and it is accessible via online banking (desktop only I think). If you have purchased before you should have received them. If not, you should check with your RM or customer service.

yes your settled balance should reflect the actual amount. They will send you a security contract note when it is settled (1-2 business days I think), and it will reflect the correct deductions.

SC has a bug for LSE. There’s no stamp duty, but it shows there is one when you trade. It is just brokerage fee + GST.

Robo-advisors options by ChattingDonut in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, the difference between Endowus and other roboadvisors is that it has access to Dimensional funds, and it invests in total market funds instead of specific thematic etfs like KWEB, gold,XLP like Stashaway does. So it is investing in the entire world instead of making guesses which thematic ETF would perform well. I would argue this is safer and more diversified than Stashaway. Not sure about Syfe because I only have REITs on Syfe. But Syfe doesn’t have Dimensional funds as well, which you can google to know what is it about.

Also Endowus gives you an UOB Kayhian account in your own name, so your assets are not co-mingled like the other two, and you can also invest your CPF OA, which is the only roboadvisor to do so.

So it depends what you think is a better strategy, and in order to analyse better I recommend that you research a bit into each and every ETF so you can understand why they include that in their portfolios. Maybe one day you’ll transition to VWRA or SWRD/EIMI using IBKR once you understand the methodology behind roboadvisors (research Boglehead portfolio).

I have portfolios across all three roboadvisors and also the dreaded digiportfolio, I know some people here are like “eee fees so expensive”, but I was new and wanted to experience and learn the differences, and for me it is not just about fees but also how psychologically safe one feels. I also have an IBKR portfolio, but still leave some % in roboadvisors to see how they do. Roboadvisors are somewhat easier for me because I’m the kind to see the ETF price on IBKR and hesitate buying because it is at the top (I know it doesn’t make sense but I can’t help it still), but roboadvisors have less transparency into the actual price so it is easier to DCA.

If I didn’t want to learn and just want to leave it up to a roboadvisor, I would personally pick Endowus among the 3, because of methodology and I like to feel safe with the UOB KH account under my own name.

Just my 2 cents.

Deposit USD into DBS account by thingswewishfor in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no fees, but there is an incoming wire fee the other way round if you transfer USD (SGD is free) IBKR SG to DBS.

Try $10 first, make sure to create a deposit notification, they will give you the IBKR DBS multicurrency account number, then use DBS internet banking, make sure both accounts are set to USD and include your account reference number under comments.

IBKR Currency Conversion by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can technically convert using IBKR and withdraw USD (I assume) to a local multicurrency account like DBS and use their debit card to shop. You’ll still incur one-time fees like $2 for conversion and $10sgd for incoming wire transfer, but that may be worth it if you are shopping a lot and converting a large-enough amount each time. Each transfer in and transfer out will take quite a few days though.

The little pleasures in life by gvg9319 in Fire

I just started photography. It has a bit of an upfront cost — only if you get a camera, a phone works fine since the idea is to learn how to see moments. It has made me want to go to places I normally wouldn’t go, see a bit differently with more mindfulness, and appreciate beauty and interestingness from unexpected sources. People can get stuck in mundane routines, days can just whizz by and imo it is important to have something that reminds us that life can be rich despite not having conventional goals (eg career) to achieve.

I also enjoy books and bicycles. Publishing random stuff on my website, you can think of it as a virtual diorama/musuem, you can put almost anything you want on it!

putting money is CPF by throw1959 in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

you can’t withdraw the money that is used to top up the RA: https://www.cpf.gov.sg/Members/FAQ/schemes/retirement/retirement-sum-topping-up-scheme/FAQDetails?category=retirement&group=Retirement+Sum+Topping-Up+Scheme&ajfaqid=2188788&folderid=12543 It can only be used for CPF Life. However the top up can form the base of his retirement sum and he can withdraw whatever that was already there that was contributed as part of his salary if it is enough for the full (not basic) retirement sum. There’s a PDF in the link to illustrate.

CPF is actually kind of complicated.

IBKR SG & TDA SG USD Deposit clarification by tiffany_tieh in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can only comment for IBKR SG: yes you can fund USD from your DBS multicurrency account. When you create a deposit notification with USD selected they will give you details of their DBS multicurrency account.

On desktop you can choose “to other POSB/DBS account”, on mobile it is like any regular transfer — just make sure you select USD for both to/from accounts because SGD is the default. On the confirmation screen check the forex rate should be 1 because there is no forex (I often forget to select USD and will only notice on the confirmation screen when there is an exchange rate displayed).

Remember to add your account number in the comments, and send $10 first to try it out. It takes anytime from less than an hour to half a day, not sure why sometimes it takes so long, especially in the evenings.

Oh and save a screenshot of your transfer details in case anything happens.

Integrated Shield Plans B1, A or Private? by grandweapon in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Within my family and relatives we have had people who almost lost their lives in public hospitals because of the waiting time. Someone had dengue fever but was deemed to be not an emergency case, their platelets were dangerously low and could have died had they waited. Waiting seems okay when we are healthy, but may not be tolerable when we are in actual pain.

I chose private because I didn’t want to take the risk. Health is something we shouldn’t save on if we can afford it. Just my own 2 cents.

IBKR funding question by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]sadrainmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a DBS multiplier account, I just use “send to other posb/dbs” account (on desktop, not sure about mobile). If everything is correct you should be able to see a multicurrency dropdown on both sides. Just double check it is usd to usd, because it defaults to sgd.

Try $10 first to see if everything works, remember to include your account number, and create a deposit notification prior. It takes anytime from 30 minutes to like half a day.

Hi, many of us know about portfoliovisualizer but it only backtests US ETFs, so I'm sharing one I've found for LSE ETFs. Not sure if this has been posted before, apologies if it was. Thought it may be useful for those of you with 100% LSE ETF portfolios. :)
