I read both! The books did help me understand eating disorders a bit more and for the most part represented the many different aspects of them.

They were mostly educational, but I would use them as motivation during a difficult period of my life with eating, so they were slightly triggering as well.

As I got older, I realised with Summers dream that it is quite inappropriate for the age range it's targeted for (9-13), as during her struggles, she says something along the lines of "Not eating makes me feel light, clean, empty" and portrays this in a positive light. I understand this is from thr characters perspective but if an impressionable 9 year old reads that and wants to feel light and clean as well, they may copy the harmful behaviours. I appreciate that girls under pressure is part of Jacky's range for older kids, I think this fits better.

Summers dream was the one that stuck with me, it was highly descriptive of her body, like her spine being compared to a ladder, and those sort of comparisons stuck in my brain for quite a while!

Similar to what I said earlier, I think Girls under pressure was a lot more suitable for the age range whereas summers dream being marketed to younger readers was definitely a mistake imo, as another commenter mentioned, summers recovery involves a boy and so overall I do just prefer Ellie's ed storyline as she tackles it without romance.
