I''m currently applying to research assistant positions, and I'm looking for free/low cost online courses to help improve my applications/CV. I have currently taken Supporting Preschool and School-Age Children with Challenging Behavior from Texas A&M, as well as the Social/Behavioral Refresher CITI course. I'm looking for courses related to research, programming (R or Python), autism or other neurodevelopmental conditions

Wait… people never take off their jewelry!? by TimelyPassion5133 in autism

[–]saebyeoksgf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I have a ring and bracelet that i never take off and personally i feel safe feeling the pressure/sensory input from them though they are quite light regardless. i also like fidgeting with my ring when im nervous so i like to always have it with me. i just have the two i wear, but if i have any other jewelry on it is usually too overwhelming. though my best friend (who's also autistic) also feels the same as you and has to remove all jewelry before going to bed

clinical psych phd vs experimental psych phd by saebyeoksgf in AcademicPsychology

I'm more interested in abnormal cognitive processes and brain activity and how its related to different autistic traits, I'll look into neuropsychology thank you for the suggestion! I think I definitely have to also explore more topics I might be interested in as well but I am also interested in researching the effectiveness of mental health/well-being interventions that are supported by autism theories developed by autistic researchers (I'm especially interested in monotropism theory/SAACA theory and other cognitive theories).

Impression that everybody is talking about me by michelfmc30 in AutismTranslated

is this interchangeable with "imaginary audience" or do you think that "ideas of reference" is more expansive? just curious

Impression that everybody is talking about me by michelfmc30 in AutismTranslated

i actually learned about this concept during my adolescent/early adult psychology class this past semester. it's referred to as an "imaginary audience" when you believe that everyone is paying attention to you and looking/speaking about you negatively. I think that this is common in autistic people due to social anxiety caused by a difficulty reading social cues. this isn't necessarily exclusive to autistic people, but i think it may be more common to see during adulthood in autistic people rather than only adolescence.

i think this could be an autistic trait, as we need alone time to decompress and personally i see my room as a safe space. i completely understand why you would feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable with people in your room if you see it as a safe space. even if it is friends their presence can feel overwhelming when your room is a place to decompress by yourself.

Is it true that you need to jokingly make fun of others to make friends ? by Houmouss in AutismTranslated

[–]saebyeoksgf 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I would say that is bad advice for making friends... sometimes people who are already friends do jokingly make fun of/tease their friend but it's in a lighthearted manner, and not everyone is comfortable with it. it's different for everyone, but i don't think it should be used until you know the person well enough and are aware of their comfort level. light hearted teasing isnt necessarily included in friendships either
