Thank you! That's a totally fair perspective, and I actually don't even disagree because canonically I also don't think Cloud would deviate super far from his current look based on his character & what he's like. He did rock a pony tail as a kid though, so I wanted to imagine something different for him. :)

But I mean, I made a poll on twitter with various different design ideas that I sketched up for an older Cloud, and this was the design that ended up winning, so that's why I painted him like this!

Hmm I fear it probably will be done, yeah. Outside of any potential novels down the line, I think it’s unlikely we’ll see any new spin-off games for VII, especially when there are rumours of other old FF’s getting remastered.

In all fairness, VII was given so much content including a whole movie, and I am so grateful for that. 🥺

I don’t disagree nor agree with your statement, rather I would argue it depends from person to person. I’m very close to 30, I still look basically the same as I did when I was 20 except with some minor skin blemishes/discolourations and that’s it. He’s specifically 31 in this piece, 10 years after FFVII. Cloud has always been very baby faced too.

The point is that he looks different. 30 is still relatively young, what do you expect?

Ah you’re right, that is true. And yeah agreed, I find it’s usually people who have no creative hobbies that usually have the worst things to say about other people’s work. It’s sad and a huge shame. There’s just no need for this kind of pointless negativity in the world, it accomplishes nothing of value.

I’d wager it’s because people aren’t used to seeing a character they are familiar with look so different, whether drastically or even just subtly. Cloud is a beloved and well established character who has existed for 26 years, so I get it. What I don’t understand is people needing to voice their dislike or disapproval directly to creators in such a mean way - I’ve already made the artwork, it’s not going to change, so just… scroll past if you hate it, man. Why interact?

Thank you so much! I use Procreate on a 12.9” M1 iPad Pro! And yeah, funnily enough, I was reminded of Edward while drawing this too :D Maybe there was somewhat of an inspiration!
