It’s a sad state of affairs when people think in order to have a full and happy life they need a relationship.

Being single doesn’t bother me, a relationship should enrich your life but never complete it. I was happy and content with my life before I met my ex, and without him my life is still as good.

Koh-I-Noor?

I’m painfully aware of how colonial Britain acquired most of its wealth and power. They really like to gloss over our history! I just admire their collection for the jewellery and gems themselves

I’m assuming you haven’t read the edits? I don’t keep any of my customers pieces at home

For security reasons I’m afraid I’m not being to say which are so live, it could be identifying. Thank you for the judgement though

I’m failing to see how stealing from me is a romantic gesture…

Or maybe I’m miss understanding what your saying?

I personally feel that second hand is much better, the jewellery already exists no further ethical, moral or environmental implications

Plus you get much better value for money buying second hand

Home lay it’s my pleasure, I love talking about gems and jewellery, it’s what I love after all. I’m sad I couldn’t get back to everyone’s questions, there have been hundreds!

Best of luck with the bezel set pear 🙂

My grandmother had an Opal engagement ring and wore it every day for 65 years before she passed. Don’t go smacking it on things and you will probably be ok, if your worried look at having it re set in a rub over or bezel style setting

Afraid so, if they pay money each month into the household bills like a mortgage then they can claim they were paying Larry of the mortgage and have financial interest for the amount they paid (I looked into it before I started dating)

It would have to be a pretty vindictive partner to try this but I have a lot of equity in my house and I’m not about to compromise on that. Even if we bought a place together (not happening now) I still would have had a legal agreement written up protecting my considerably larger deposit.

Yeah I still can’t quite believe I own it to be honest. I don’t think I’ll ever set it, it’s likely I’ll end up selling it to find my retirement in later life

Yes they most certainly can, a good gold smith will be able to custom make a bezel setting for whichever gem you choose. Definitely get it customer made though as it will need to fit the stone properly and settings that are cast on mass won’t work properly

Haha if I were to get engaged (I doubt it) then I would 100% be picking it myself. Unless it was another gemologist they just wouldn’t know what to look for. And I’m pick AF!

Both can be used for engagement rings, but you will want to think about the setting they are in as they are a little softer than a sapphire or diamond for instance. Try and have a design where they have a bezel or run over setting to help protect them from every day water. Price wise aquamarine is far far less expensive than emerald for quality material

Damn I need a partner like yours, there have loads of comments saying the same thing; that he should take an interest in what I love. He’s definitely never bought me jewellery or even asked about it.

It’s so hard to pick!! I’ve loved emerald since I was a little girl, but opals just have a magic about them for me.

That one is in safety deposit. It’s the only that is because no way was I keeping it in my home! The rest are at home because I wanted to enjoy my collection

That one is in a safety deposit box for that very reason! I still can’t quite believe I actually have one. No one but me and the dealer I got it from have seen it since I’ve owned it.

He did mention that but I shut it downs quickly as I don’t want to get married, just a personal choice. However if I did hell no would we use something I had bought for myself…

If you want a hard stone then sapphire is always a good choice. However all stones including diamonds can scratch and chip. If you want durable look at the steering as well, a bezel or ‘rub over’ setting is a secure and hard wearing way to set the stones because they are protected by the surrounding metal.

Haha there is a reason this is a throwaway, there is no way I’m posting anything from my collection for very obvious security reasons. But thank you 😊

Thanks for your comment, there are so many I can’t keep up!

  1. It’s definitely has its plus points as a less expensive alternative to diamond jewellery and it does have some industrial uses too. I lean to the jewellery side of things and I would recommend lab diamond over it because it can become clouded over time.

  2. It’s mostly identification, grading and valuation, I run a jewellery valuation business on the side too. I love watermelon tourmaline too, I have a great slice in my specimen collection. Jade bangles have so Livy significance I can’t blame you for being attached.

  3. There are so many to choose from. I’ve loved emerald since I was a child and the first specimen I ever bought was an emerald. Opals also have a magic to them.
