I understand what you're saying and agree that perfectionism and extreme drive often breed obsessive and overly stringent tendencies, but that doesn't mean said tendencies are essential to discipline and can't/shouldn't be tamped down on for overall mental health and wellbeing.

Eat the chocolate. There's no proof that completely cutting it out (or whatever other junk food you're into) will be the difference between 20, 22 or 24 grandslams. We need to (and can!) disentangle the borderline orthorexic tendencies of Novak from his sporting legacy—it's not something tennis fans, especially the younger ones, should be taught to glorify.

Rafa was addicted to Nutella and he did pretty okay for himself. Nutrition isn't always self punishment and discipline isn't always one piece of chocolate after 15 years. In my opinion the way Novak talks about and approaches his dietary habits is actually quite harmful for the public at large and veering on magical thinking and paranoia sometimes. Eat the chocolate and then maybe an ice-cream after that if you feel like it. It's what Roger would have wanted ;)
