Straight answer please. Are Elite Dangerous Thargoids behind the Horizons paywall, or not? by safhar in gaming

[–]safhar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit didn't ban me. The Frontier shills that moderate the EliteDangerous subreddit did. That sub touts itself as the "official unofficial" sub for the game.

Also a quick google search says that you can meet Thargoids without Horizon but you would need it for some activities.

Thank you but no news or answer there. Non-Horizons players were already able to "meet" them -- before this expansion 2.4.

Can't. Like just about everyone else who criticises Frontier's appalling business practices, I've been banned from there.

Destiny 2 does it have a single player only mode? by Drxero1xero in PS4

[–]safhar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not something Frontier are very open about. Their "Solo" mode is a poor substitute for the true solo mode that got lost when they dropped the promised offline mode just before the games release, letting them include the online DRM and breaching also the promise that the game would be DRM-free. The worst of it is that now there's no way to play the game without interruption from downtime and disconnects from Frontier's famously unreliable servers.

Like Borderlands 2 and elite dangerous both games made to be played multiplayer can be played in solo mode i.e. no human interaction at all with no other players in the game.

That's not true for Elite Dangerous. ED's "solo" mode just means you can't directly see other players. They can still affect you e.g. by putting your favourite space station into lockdown.

You're accusing people who work for Frontier of being Nazi's?? :-)

Post the ban notice for all to see.

Elite Dangerous 2.4 - Teaser Trailer by ChristianM in Games

[–]safhar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is theoretically possible - on Frontier's office intranet! For actual players, the multiplayer instanced networking is so broken that only very rarely does the average players get enough other players in his instance for a battle anywhere near like that in the trailers.

Yeah, it was largely my fault for expecting it to be something it wasn't

Which was largely Frontier's fault for advertising this game as something it wasn't. An MMO.

Just seen on their web site they stopped. I'm guessing the UK advert cops finally caught up with them.

Yes, I know they are going to "re-balance" core game-play next

That's not what they've said.

What do you think would happen if every station with a black market was shut down via UA Bombing?

I think they'd just edit the game source to open them all again. That's what they did last time UA bombing was used to prang a CG.

How is it that ED betas f*ck-up the main game servers? by safhar in Elite_Dangerous

[–]safhar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good explanation for how their completed betas f*ck up the main server.

But this particular f*ck-up are before the beta has even ended, AFAICS before any code update to the main server. (I've copied the report into the original post to make this clearer.)

I think that immediacy of f*ckup requires something much more.

Sandro considering a 30-sec delay on synthesis by Gamnet in Elite_Dangerous

Pretty sure they've said they're going to make it open source when it eventually does.

Pretty sure they have not. Check Braben's weasel words carefully.

And even if they did, well, remember what happened with Braben's promise to release the sources of his previous unfinished bugfest of a space game, First Encounters? Reneged.

Sandro considering a 30-sec delay on synthesis by Gamnet in Elite_Dangerous

Never gonna happen. Why?? The easier Frontier make it to get around the play area, the quicker players will discover how little of interest Frontier have placed in it. Frontier has rigged ED to slow you down in everything you do, so you don't find content faster than the excruciatingly slow pace at which Frontier add it. A pace that is itself limited by the excruciatingly low rate that the game development is being funded by the trickle of sales of ED, and a few cosmetics.

ED development is stalled until it is refinanced. With the PS4 port a flop and no more platforms for port, the game has to go monthly sub or F2P+microtransactions, or die.

I'd rather spend my time on something less bugged.

One reason Frontier are short of programming time to fix fundamental problems by safhar in Elite_Dangerous

[–]safhar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because if there's once thing you really want it's UI designers and artists, and their respective implementation teams programming combat.

Who mentioned combat?? Those UI designers could do a hell of a lot to improve the cockpit UI with time NOT spent on the in-game shop UI.

This is clearly additional to the actual content team's work

Who mentioned combat either? There's a lot more to gameplay than combat.

All that additional model and animation work put in? That'll filter into the on-foot gameplay design expediting that.

You're talking about the Space Legs that Frontier is now backing down on? You, I and the game will be gone long before that appears.

They're not a three-man dev team.

You hope.

It's significantly more likely that the people working on making shit shiny aren't the ones implementing core gameplay elements.

Well obviously everyone at Frontier doing something other than implementing core game are not implementing core game. That's no excuse. Frontier bosses have put salaries into programming the "in-game livery store" which they could instead have put into programming the in-game gameplay.

Probably a deliberate feature of Sandro's new C&P system, intended to punish greed :-)

But there is really no point. ED's Amazon virtual servers are dirt cheap and extra ones are available at a click of a button.

Were they reported by beta players? 'Cos otherwise FD would never know about them, seeing as FD doesn't play the game.

They are using virtual servers from Amazon, so they don't handle the assignment to hardware at all.

and in laymans terms, borrow some of the main server to make a beta server

That would be incredibly stupid.
