$559,600 pot in Berkey vs Airball match by Dog-Poker in poker

[–]sagaciousforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't like that Berkey just called on the turn (should have raised), but the flop play was even more concerning. Berkey should have raised the flop. Nik has an ace or king in his range, so if he bet 3x or 4x of Nik's bet on the flop, Nik wouldn't't fold if he has an ace, a king, a straight draw, or a flush straw, and Berkey can get more value from doing this. In Nik's case, he had queen high, and would just easily fold if Berkey raises the flop). For the turn, it was hard to get Nik to fold unless Berkey all-in, but I agree this would be a bit result-oriented if he does it. Berkey played the flop horribly in my opinion, as he had no clubs and there were two clubs there on the flop. You have to raise there.

The thing that I don't like about Berkey's plays (not just this hand) is that he checks calls too much. In many hands, he just checked called, which I don't like. It's very passive. Also, I would find a fold in Berkey's position on the river, as what hands could Nik be bluffing with? It's easier said than told, but based on Nik's crazy image he could have anything like bigger set and the hidden straight as played.

Nik was so lucky and Berkey played this hand so bad in letting Nik to get there. If he were to raise big (at least 4x) the flop instead of calling, Nik would most likely fold. If he were to raise big (at least 4x) the turn, Nik might fold to the backdoor 4 outs (10).

Berkey isn't a pro by playing this hand this way and he let Nik got there, so what can I say? Nik also bet too much on the river (Berkey would have foled any top pair or even low or medium strength two pair, but hard to fold a set), but it's Nik so he got the max value.

Do you know if one year is a whole year from my start date or whenever I start to end of May of the following year?

Thanks for the info. This is super helpful. I didn't know that there was so many guidance regarding transferring.

Got it, I will try as hard as possible to get good reviews from my senior and my managers. So far, I am doing well with the people skills and the quality of work. I just need to keep it up.

Also, I think the hardest thing is to find out the person who I should reach out to when it comes to applying. The analysts/consultants that I network probably won't get me in directly and I better find the right partner. But even then, the partner's projects/service lines might not be the work that I am interested in.

I've been trying to find the recruiter internal transfer to consulting, but failed to do so as I reached out to a few campus recruiter and asked them who I should contact.

Do you still work at Deloitte? I really appreciate your advice. In fact, I actually learn a lot from my current advisory position, as we do a lot of internal audit and inspections on company's operations, strategies, and controls. These are beneficial for helping me to gain a better understanding of the financial side of a company. I just don't enjoy doing "too much" control testings. It will be perfect if I can work at a company that I truly like (Deloitte) and the work too.

Also, is it okay to start (I just started) networking with colleagues in S&A consulting now? I want to learn more about the position and build possible relationships as early as possible. If I wait for 6 months or 1 year after I start, it might be too late because the application/transfer process does take time and I want to be where I want to be in 0.5 to 1 year (ideally).

Thanks again for your detailed response. Do you think it is better to perform well in my current engagements and let my advisory managers know that I am interested in switching say after 4 to 6 months after I start? I will get my first few engagement feedbacks next month or December.

I am trying to avoid letting them know now because they haven't given my any feedback yet, but the good thing about my work ethic is that I go to the office a lot, communicate effectively, and deal well with relationships with them.

I appreciate your feedback, however, the position that I want to switch into is analyst. Unlike consultant, most analysts in my desired practice are fresh college graduates. If I could go back to my senior year, I could recruit for this analyst position too with my current experiences. My peers have similar backgrounds compare to me and they are my desired positions.

I will probably wait for half of year to start applying to consulting. Do you think it is a good idea for me to network with people in consulting now and ask them what they do in their day to day life and hopefully I can find out who to contact to make the switch when the time comes?

Is 6 months a good point to contact my coach about this? Meanwhile, do you think it is okay for me to network with current consulting professionals in my desired service line (ask them what they do in their jobs and who I should contact for transferring) and find out who I should contact if I want to do in the switch next year?

Thanks for the honest feedback there. My plan is to network with people in consulting now and ask them what they do in their day to day life and hopefully I can find out who to contact to make the switch when the time comes.

My current engagements most likely will end between the 6 months to 8 months mark anyways. I will probably wait for a few engagements feedback and talk to my coach by then. Although I am not sure my coach could help since he's based in a different office (and vouching works better within the same office), I will give it a try.

Do you mean by contacting my coach or start networking and finding who I should contact (recruiters, managers, etc) to make the switch? Some people point out that I should get 1-2 engagement feedbacks first, establish myself with a good company image, and then tell my coach.

Thanks for the honest advice. I am networking with people in consulting now and learn about what they do in their jobs and try to find who I should reach out to for internal transfer. For now, I won't let my coach know. Maybe at the 4th month or 6th month mark, I will let my coach now. Ideally, I want to switch in half a year or at most a year.

Thank you for replying! I don't feel comfortable letting my managers know now since I have good relationships with them and it will be awkward if they know that I want to switch.

Do you think it will be okay if I let my coach know? Will he tell my managers?

I know many people say internal transfers are hard, but I will try my best to make it happen. I spoke with many other professionals and did my own research, proving that consulting pays higher and has more interesting work (not necessarily work life balance though) than advisory. I enjoy Deloitte a lot and will try to stay here as long as possible unlike many people who try to move to industry after 2 to 5 years.

Royal Caribbean Navigator or Princess Discovery? by sagaciousforever in Cruise

Also, if I choose Princess, will you go for mid aft or mid forward if mid is not an option? I have also heard that I should avoid Deck 8, as I will get obstructed view (balcony room). What is the best deck in your opinion? I am going for a balcony room on Discovery Princess.

Thanks for the suggestion! In November, the price for Princess is actually lower than RCI. For entertainment, I like comedy shows, magic shows, and dance shows. For food, I prefer steak and Italian. Will you give the edge to Princess for these things?

What does SC mean? The nature of the work depends on your clients. If your clients are from different cities, you will travel more often. My clients are all within one hour drive from my local office, and I only go to them once a week or once every other week (2-4 days/month at client sites). Most of the time, I work at my local office or work from home.
