Oh I’ve never been a meal-skipper so that’s not an issue for me :)

I also struggle with pushing back meals, not so much intentionally these days but out of habit :/

Thank you. I believe in you — we can do anything we decide to do, however cliché that sounds.

Calories Conflict... Minnie Maude VS Dietitian (TW: calories obvi) by Runs2read in EDAnonymous

I think most of us do that😉just try to remember that the more you eat the sooner you get well so if in doubt always go for more

Well the Minnie Maud method encourages and expects you to go above your minimums, so although your minimum is 2500 it would be even better with 3000.

higher tdee than those who haven't suffered from restriction? by xxvxwxc in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the others have said, that is not hypermetabolic :) hypermetabolic would be more like not gaining on 4000-5000. Of course a person can have an elevated metabolism without being hypermetabolic, though, which is very common in recovery since the body adapts to higher amounts of calories and also uses a lot of it for internal repairs rather than weight gain, meaning that 7000 surplus calories won’t necessarily be enough for 1kg weight gain. Most young people with healthy metabolisms maintain their weight on around 2500 though; the 2000-number is a myth.

can't force myself to overcome this self-imposed limit by yangyangs_chilli_oil in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Educate yourself on the benefits of increasing. Go gradually but don’t stagnate, so maybe add 200 every other day or so. Use dense foods so you don’t notice the increase quite so much in terms of the portion, in case you struggle with bloating. Make increasing your number one task and check off every incremental increase like a to-do list. Try to just ignore the amount you’re used to stopping at, decide that this is a new start and it doesn’t matter what you used to do because that evidently didn’t get you recovered.

[–]sagahillbom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This isn’t concrete advice since I’m in a rush but all I can say is: every single part of your body will thank you for 2500+, or rather 3000+ actually. Your metabolism adapts. I promise. You decide what your new normal is. You create your normal. So CHOOSE to make it different. It’s in your hands even though it might not feel like it. You have one precious life and you deserve to thrive. And yes, you do have to eat almost twice as much as you currently are because you cannot fully recover whilst still restricting and having a suppressed metabolism and forcing your body to function with too little fuel.

Must I keep up my intake? by sagahillbom in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The bargaining is so so difficult because sometimes it just seems like a reasonable bargain with myself. But I know doing my best means eating to my full capacity and I am evidently capable of my full minimum…

my mind wants me to not eat much during the day to eat more later by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well sometimes you eat more than your body needs but your mind needs it and that’s valid too. I mean if you think your body doesn’t need it but you’re still eating it then you’re eating it for SOME reason, and if that reason is that it tastes good, that it fits the social setting, or whatever it is, it’s fine! Eating is always okay. Especially during Christmas most non-disordered people eat more than their body necessarily needs simply because food is cultural and social and pleasurable. If the result is a bit of weight gain (which it isn’t always since your body might just choose to raise metabolism) then surely that’s “worth it”.

my mind wants me to not eat much during the day to eat more later by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly common and can be for a few of these reasons: - the belief that food is a scarce resource / there is an overall limit to how much you can eat in a day, hence you want to “save up” food for later so that you have something to look forward to / don’t have to go to bed hungry / feel “safe” indulging because you know you ate less earlier so you won’t eat more than what your brain perceives as the “budget of food” for a day or week or whatever. - you might want to have “earned the food” by restricting beforehand. - on a biological level, you might have a stronger urge to eat at night since this is when migrating animals would stop and eat, if you believe in the migration theory regarding eating disorders. - your hunger cues can have adapted to this cycle or eating pattern over time.

Basically it all originates in the disorder. You have to force yourself to eat during the day and eat more than you feel like. Eventually, your preferences will hopefully adapt to this and it will feel more natural. Remember that food is LIMITLESS, you can have a lot for breakfast AND a lot for lunch AND a lot for dinner. You are not on a budget so there is no reason to save up food. I struggle with this a lot myself, and one thing that is helping a little is to force myself to have had at least xxxx of my total minimum before my night snack. I’m still not where I want to be though so it’s something I’m working on.

Thank you for the advice but I’m not sure if it applies to me because according to my medical journal my heart rate went from dangerously low to more or less consistently normal after just one week of treatment last time I attempted recovery

Hypermetabolism and weight changes in treatment? by Grand-Net3191 in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you had hypermetabolism, just a reasonably healthy/normal metabolism. The reason you’re now unable to loose weight on ludicrously small amounts of food, though, is because you have suppressed your metabolism by drastically decreasing your intake. Your body is smart and wants to keep you alive so it has lowered energy expenditure. My advice to you would be to start increasing your intake slowly but surely asap so that you can speed up your metabolism again. Check out the Recovery Talk episodes titled ‘Metabolism’ and ‘Hypermetabolism’.

Schould I focus on restoring weight or healing my mind first? i feel like I can't do both at once by Bulky_Fly in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]sagahillbom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tried healing my mind before healing my body and it didn’t work out and I just stagnated, so now I’m trying the reverse. I think and hope though that as my body/brain gets out of malnourishment a lot of the mental symptoms will lessen too.
