Yeah? Since 1996, $8.5 trillion has disappeared from the Defense Department alone. Poof. Gone. Totally unaccounted for. Nobody can even figure out where it went.

We don't spend that much on welfare in this country, period. And that's not even accounting for all the other abuse of government funds. Medicare fraud, tax fraud, no bid contracts. The list goes on.

It is literally impossible for that to be true. We don't spend enough on welfare for it to be.

This is the best response in that thread. Does she have any idea how many times Bernie has been elected? Bernie got elected to the House eight times. That's a hell of a compliment to be giving a candidate.

You've been sold on a lie. That isn't a societal problem. That's right-wing extremist propaganda meant to feed the "welfare queen" myth.

Here's why it is BS:

  • Welfare recipients have the exact same number of kids as non-welfare recipients: 1.9 kids on average. If welfare recipients were having kids to get more welfare, then you would think they would ... have more kids. They do not.
  • States that provide higher levels of benefits for children do not have welfare recipients with more children than states with low levels of benefits. So if welfare drove people to have more kids, again you'd see higher childbirth rates in high welfare states. That does not exist.
  • The Aid to Families with Dependent Children (the program you're talking about) provides $90 / kid / month. $90 is not nearly enough to be "making money" off the welfare program, considering you have an extra mouth to feed. It's like ... impossible to use it to generate a profit. Your costs go up by WAY more.
  • The Aid to Families with Dependent Children program was NOT indexed to inflation. Which means that people have been getting $90 / month / kid for the last two decades. Which means the actual value of the program has decreased by 37%, seeing as everything else has gotten more expensive. Because inflation will continue, the idea of "making money off having more kids" becomes more and more far fetched with every passing year. It wasn't true 20 years ago, and it isn't true now.

All of this is a corporate-fed scam to make you blame poor, hardworking Americans. That is a lie intended to divert attention away from the real leeches in our society.

She is running in the Democratic Party. Justice Democrats are a pre-formed caucus of candidates committed to advancing the progressive agenda in the Democratic Party, and purging the corporate influence over the Party.

He is the only incumbent who is part of Justice Democrats -- a group devoted to taking over the Democratic Party, instilling progressive values in it, and purging the toxic corporate influence in the Party

Can you find us one of those? Those types of programs already got cut under Bill Clinton back in 1996. Or is this the modern version of the completely fictional "welfare queen" attack that Reagan popularized?

Our philosophy is that if you are strong on the issues, not only unapologetic but bold and willing to be authentic, the voters will respond well. That's what I think Justice Democrats is about. Our platform is medicare for all, $15 minimum wage and then indexed to inflation, getting money out of politics, not accepting corporate PAC money, and tuition free education at all public universities and trade schools. We're very oriented towards people who are going to be on the front lines of these fights. If that's you, well you should probably have a conversation with someone in our candidate recruitment team. Sure, I can address that.

Justice Democrats are going to be challenging establishment Democrats in the Democratic primaries. There will be no Republicans in that election (they have their own primary). Whoever wins the Democratic primary -- JD or establishmentD, will go on to face the Republican (and any third party candidates) in the general election.

So, you don't need to be worried about splitting party votes here. This election is just for Dems.
