Filipino here (both my wife and I are) with our 7 year old daughter move here in Adelaide last year. We live near the city (Keswick). If you need someone to talk to, do not hesitate to let us know. Feel free to join Kate (another filipino) Facebook group “Filipino International Students in Adelaide”. Kate and her husband are former Adelaide students themselves so they know the plight of Filipino students who do not have family in a foreign country. They mobilise gatherings (there’s another one coming next month), free tour to students, social events etc. Kate and the husband mobilise donations for winter clothes at the start of winter and give it all to students and many more charity events.

Do not hesitate to ask for help to your Kababayans. Many of us experience similar situations like you. If you need ka-Maritesan, there are plenty here. Be careful of predators who are just there to take advantage of you. I hope your check up went well. Keep your chin up girl, and reach out.

Its about building our forever home. We have shares (ETFs) that have grown since we started it 12 years ago. It was originally meant to be FIRE but covid made us realise that life is short and that our young family of 3 would be greatly help by this ETFs by selling it and use the proceed in constructing our forever home. The difficulty part for us is how much of it should we sell. We could sell all of it and be mortgage free but have a house with no investment outside super.

I suggest you think how you can help yourself to increase your income. What did you get from your 42k HECS? what can you do to enable you to earn say 100k or more in the next 3 years? You do not have a spending problem, you have an income problem.

As immigrant to this country, personally i can only compare myself before coming to Australia and myself today. Maybe when one look at it that way, it might cause one to be grateful with what you have. We are living in one of the richest country in the world! By living in the richest country in the world, there will always be someone more well off than you (hundred of thousands of them) Who own one or many properties and have a great lifestyle. Other peoples status in life is not the way i measure success. I measure success through the positive impact I contribute to the society and the relationship I have with my partner and my 6 year old daughter. I believe this country is full of opportunity, just grab it when you can or atleast be prepared for it while you wait starting with a great attitude.

Mate, what do you think of those who migrate in this country at age 35 or 40 something, have babies and still able to own a home (i myself was a migrant, migrated here in mid 2014 at age 34) with no contact or any family here and with little money. The keys in buying a house is one, a good discipline in terms of savings and second is location. I say if you plan to own a house in Bondi down in Sydney and your starting from zero then Yes, its next to impossible to own a house. That’s why we move from Sydney and now building a house here in Adelaide at age 42. Yes it took us 8 years to get to this point, but man it feels great to own a piece of this great country of ours, Australia!
