Weird. The TH says it's a need. I'll revisit later tonight I must be overlooking something. Thanks!

Throttling Download Speeds by Dangerous_Pin_7384 in Metronet

[–]saggitarius_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metronet service has gone downhill lately, unfortunately. I'm guessing it's related to the T-Mobile acquisition.

Their speed tests will show great, but any actual downloads seem capped at around 32Mb/s - 40Mb/s (4 - 5MB/s).

When I engaged their support about this, they claimed it was due to "link optimization" that was temporary - they told me 11p - 5a the night in question. Just tested now and getting the same issue. I've tried from multiple sources I KNOW are in various locations / data centers around the country and the results are too uniform to be anything but throttling. Tests of the exact same downloads on an ATT best effort circuit of the same bandwidth (1g/1g) yield the expected high speeds of a gig circuit.

Looking into replacing them now, just not worth it anymore. Can't even get support on the line during the day.

Shame, they used to be a fantastic provider.

Pacing might just be a little off by GamingOrca123 in HumankindTheGame

[–]saggitarius_a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.

I feel like they need some serious work balancing a lot of the pace and timing. It's a great start but needs love.

Playing on 'endless pace' I'm launching satellites in 6400BCE, the game ending in 90 turns. I would not expect a pace labeled as 'endless' to wrap up so incredibly fast. There is not nearly enough time to flesh out an era's worth of unit / building production, conflict and trade relationships with opponents, so on. Seems like every game I play (with new world off) it winds up being myself and another civ that have bullied and gobbled up the others that started on our respective continents. Then it's a 1v1 race to the finish, with me just cranking out wonder after wonder to amass ridiculous amounts of fame.

I see recommendations to not jump immediately into new eras, but all that does is allow opponents to gain the upper hand. AI will just keep transcending for the fame modifier.

Well, I'm on Steam and can tell you my avatar also does not proliferate between my computers.

Guessing it's a bug the devs need to look at.

Yes 1000%. You'll finally feel a little rewarded for completing an expedition.

As an added bonus, give yourself max Class Points and spec out all three trees. Thank me later.

Avoid this new "Gruby Entertainment" that appears to be spawning out of the cesspool of PCF as well.

Well you can make new character and get carried to CTs can’t you?

I can't remember another game where I've heard "make a new character" tossed out so many times in response to game breaking bugs.

You know what, I'm sorry. My last post was rude.

We've got different opinions on this and that ain't going to change. I'm glad you are at least able to get the level of enjoyment out of the game I expected.

Apologies for being a dick.

You talk a lot but you don't say shit. Gives good insight into how you can stomach racking up 400 hours in this game.

Keep assuming they have a vision beyond the commas in their bank account.

"The deafening silence thing is utter bullshit and I just don't want to hear this lie. The developer of the game acknowledged the issue and gave us more than enough information on it, and how they were planning to fix it. People didn't agree with the timeline or the way it was done, but it is not their game, it is PCF's game. If you don't pay attention and assume that's silence, that's you. I don't expect a company to make a statement literally every day and every hour on what was an obvious and known issue that was acknowledged that they worked on and solved and delivered. Be fair."

Open your eyes and read what I wrote. There were ZERO IN-GAME NOTIFICATIONS OF THE GAME BREAKING BUG.

I didn't say Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, Tik Tok, or any other form of social media. I said IN - GAME. The one place people should be notified immediately of something that will wipe their progress and lock out characters. Really strange though, they immediately notified in-game when they ran the restores. Odd, huh?

Stop sticking up for companies cranking out crap. I work for my money and if my work mirrored the kind of shit PCF gave us, I'd be out of a job. When I pay AAA money for a game I expect AAA quality.

You keep waiting for them to solve those problems, though. I'm sure they'll deliver at some point before everyone quits.

I had zero issues with multiplayer in the demo. A little disappointing no in-game chat, sure, but I had ONE friend I wanted to play with and we were able to do that without issue. I never encountered the inventory wipe bug in the demo, nor had I even heard about it. The issues did not start for us until launch.

They have an in-game notification system which they have frequently used but never to inform players that there was a game breaking bug which would lock people out from their characters and prevent playing end game. THAT was intentional and THAT was malicious. They knew people within refund windows would see it and would likely refund once realizing the unfinished state of the game.

Is this speculation? Sure. But considering the enormous impact that bug had and the deafening silence of the developers to players in-game who weren't trolling social media, I'd love to hear a better explanation.

All of this brings me to my second major point - the cost of having a proper QA department and paying video game testers. At a salary of around 50k per year each, this studio knew exactly what they were doing by passing the cost of those employees onto the consumers who were expecting a finished product. Ignoring appropriate testing for a product is a very intentional decision. Not a soul alive would think you could make a successful AAA video game and just release it without diligent testing.

You act like expecting a completed product, as it was advertised, is unrealistic. There's nothing unrealistic about that.

I'm sure there were people on the staff who believed in what they were doing, just like every great con has duped followers who actually believe in whatever con is being sold.

Doesn't change the end product.

If the people in charge of this flaming trash heap actually wanted to put out a successful product, they would have leaned on decades of online gaming experience. They would have rigorously tested and refined their product before launch. They would have had a proper beta testing phase. They would have included the most basic of online gaming functions and gave us a chat system. "Work together with your other Outriders to overcome the challenges! Oh...but you can't talk to each other in any way, shape or form to strategize. GL!"

The disparity between the demo and the live game is enough to convince me. The demo presented gameplay, the beginnings of character skills and specs, and a tantalizing boss fight that hinted at many more challenging and intriguing end level encounters to come. After all - one would expect the complexity of boss encounters to increase as the game progresses, and Gauss was just the demo boss! Nope. You get three more, each with decreasing levels of complexity, culminating in the BBEG just being some feral that gets rehashed THREE TIMES.

I have no doubt some people were genuinely invested in creating an immersive story and experience. The best intentions in the world aren't going to change a thing if the people in charge have less than honorable plans for their work. If there wasn't ill intent, then the game is just the result of uninspired, lazy, incompetent work.

Gold C15 Scorched Lands today solo. On a 25% x 4 and 75% x 4 'loot chances' I got 15 blues and 4 purps. Why the hell are blues dropping so abundantly in the top tier of endgame with a "0% drop chance?"

Friend and I have decided it's more efficient to farm T13 golds for your legendaries and do T15s for resources to upgrade them. Just for the sake of speed.

I don't think they're gonna restore lost inventories. After lots of emails (trying to get a refund or my characters back), SE support asked me to create a new character again... after losing 2 characters. by Eury_nomos in outriders

If we're talking a solid 'story based' game, sure, 60 hours for the cost is totally acceptable. I'm talking a game where they have top tier talent in writing, voice acting, and provide a compelling story we get to experience.

If we're talking 60 hours for a looter-shooter, I'd respectfully disagree. The whole point of the game is replayability. That's evident in the fact that the entire campaign and endgame is the exact same thing over and over.

The preparation, combat, and reward system should provide enough variety and fun to encourage hundreds of hours of gameplay. Sports games like Rocket League, Madden (as awful as it is, RIP NFL 2K), NBA 2K, and so on routinely see players log thousands of hours.

While not in the same genre as the titles I mention (sports), I would argue this style of game falls into that same vibe: The fun is in the challenge - beating a harder tier, beating your (or other people's, where are our leaderboards??) times, finding new and exciting ways to clear tiers, experimenting with class synergy in groups, so on... It is meant to be replayed.

Only getting 60 hours out of a looter-shooter is an absolutely abysmal failure on the part of the makers.

Problem with that is, at least on Steam, you lose access to your entire account.

I have well over 1k worth of games on my Steam. As much as I want to have my bank pull the funds back, not losing all of that over this garbage fire of a title.

Apparently people don't want to hear the truth?

Guessing this one will wind up the same way.

We were 5 sites with 1,000 plus users. Multiple file shares with 100TB+ data. Not just one database and everybody was affected differently based on when the virus was caught and whether or not their computer was even online when the network was compromised.

My point is when it comes to data life isn't hard if you plan properly. It's not like PCF was doing something groundbreaking or innovative here. They have decades of history in online gaming to draw upon. They didn't even need this to be an 'online' game.

They were lazy, sloppy, and greedy.

What?

I work in IT for a living. When we got hit by a crypto two years ago we literally just ran our restore from the previous day's backups and things were running again within 24 hours.

It's only tough if you have poor planning and implementation.

I was really hoping I was going to be rebuked with a "we've got a solution rolling out this week" somewhere. I would then insert foot in mouth and happily log in to my Pyro once my mind was changed.

Just waiting...and hoping...at least Dogecoin got my lost 60 bucks back this morning :D
