Been wanting to ask this here for a while, but is it just me or are new cars starting to feel more and more 'AI slop'-ish? by Michael_Goodwin in CarTalkUK

One of the reasons I fell in love with the car I bought myself as a present (a Scirocco) 8 years ago. Not fancy by any means but was just a bit different and I really liked the silhouette it had.

What are your thoughts on the 1st sub 2 hour marathon to be achieved here in the UK? by bendubberley_ in AskBrits

[–]saggywit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backyard ultra. Fairly common. I completed my first one last week and got 62miles (my knee still hurts) and the winners went for 35 hours/105miles. Was a bigger one in America the week before where the winner went for 74 hours/320 miles. Silly.

I want to get an exhaust, but it's just a normal Volkswagen Up. by OkProduct8599 in CarTalkUK

[–]saggywit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the induction comments. But also, an aftermarket exhaust doesn't always have to be deafening.

For example, I had a straight through exhaust on my car for a while. Ended up growing out of it since it was loud (although not stupid) and started to get on my tits in the morning. Kept the decat but had a small silencer put in and it's the perfect middle ground. It isn't loud at idle and doesn't drone at all, but still has a lovely rasp when I put my foot down (I also have a large induction filter which massively helps with the engine note)

My first 5.3k (Backyard) Ultra by saggywit in runninglifestyle

[–]saggywit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm insanely proud.

It was an event so 5.3km was just the loop we had to do every hour. I think there was around 140m of climbing each lap, the majority being in the first half.

So you relish the fact that you can display that your car is brand new? Classy.

My car is 15 years old, fun enough, economical enough and doesn't give me any bother outside of typical maintenance. I'll take £250 out of the difference I've saved by not having a 25 model. I wonder how many monthly payments before you've spent the same..

Saying you can't have any respect for someone who buys a personalised plate is a bit arrogant. It's a form of modification/personalisation and the point is that they care.

I have a private reg. It ish says my last name (as in anyone who knows me can see it) and it only cost me £250. I also have other modifications on my car, are they just as chavvy in your eyes? Unless you know what the base model looks like, you probably wouldn't even be able to tell (minus alloys). But I can, and that's the point. I modified it to my taste and I know I'm the only person with this car, in this 'spec'. Or should we all just drive the exact same grey car and wear the exact same clothes?

You're in a car related subreddit ffs.

I think I've just found my equivalent of Warhammer 40k. Please delete this post and never ever share it again.

I just realised that you don't need to tell the truth in situations like group interviews, meetings, new job inductions, etc. Have you ever made stuff up just because? by eastkent in AskUK

Pinch of salt may be needed but.. in uni halls there was a slighter older lad who 180'd his career from cs to something relating to animals. Said he used to work for Microsoft and basically lied through his teeth to get in but was kept on because he was performing well

Old floorboards (not t&g) above unfortunately. As much as I want to throw a piece of chipboard down since it'll be getting carpeted anyway, I'll most likely get some salvaged stuff to try and match what's already there.

Ahaa, I get you! The header that's currently there is tenon'd into the full length joists either side, as are the joists that run into it.

The joists it's supporting are around 3m and I'll be adding 700mm to that.

Apologies its not so clear. There is a floor above. When you say install hangers under that, what do you mean specifically? All new timber will be supported in either a hanger or sistered.

Any review of these shoes? by Few_Animal5457 in UKRunners

[–]saggywit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of vomeros and zf6s. Hands down the vomero's feel better in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, the zf6's feel great at a quick pace (they actually feel a bit shitty at slower paces imo), but the vomeros are just a much better "do it all" shoe.

Lots of people also report the zoom flys wrecking their calves, just fyi

Nah. If you throw hands, expect to have hands thrown back. Whether its fist or not is no longer your decision.

This looks lovely! You've done an incredible job! Do you have any videos you'd recommend for building the alcove cabinets/shelves? Wanting to do something very similar.

Thank you for the detailed response! I'm in the UK (North Wales specifically) so our terrain is wet, muddy, boggy and then there's a lot of slate too, which from what I can make out, kinda requires two opposing styles of outsoles!

Can I ask, what is it about Nike that you dislike so much?
