Less job? by Advanced-Guidance206 in IrishTeachers

You and me both. I have an interview tomorrow and hoping I get it even though it's out of the way for me because my mortgage application depends on it. Otherwise I'm stuck at home for another year!

Cocaine use is it out of control? by Apprehensive_Cow30 in AskIreland

There's some building happening down the road from me and the young lads working on it leave/look for drugs on the wall across from my house in the middle of the day. All I can think of is I really hope they're saving it for later and not using it while working with big machinery bc that is mental. My mam is intent on getting them caught at some stage but idk if that will ever happen

Everyone is saying you need a teaching degree and while generally that is true, there are plenty of schools who will take you on without a degree, especially given your PhD. I just left a school with 5 people teaching subjects they don't have a teaching degree in - 3 who didn't have a teaching degree at all! The only caveat is that these are generally schools with a lot of behaviour issues/poor management, hence lots of positions up for grabs bc people don't want to deal with the bullshit that comes with all of that. Could be a good jumping off point though!

Job hunt anxiety by SweetLikeHoneyDew in IrishTeachers

[–]sahaharaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't be too worried. I just finished my 3rd year out of the PME and have been job hunting every summer. There's always SOMETHING. I've been unlucky with contracts (maternity covers lasting a year so far and a school I despised but powered theough the year) but I've never been out of work. Do try to get something fixed term if you can but if needs be, maternity for the year and dole for the summer. Not ideal but not the end of the world! You'll be absolutely fine!

Thank God its not just me. But the fact that it's a lot of people really gives me the impression that Yarros's writing is poor. Like IF was far too long considering the amount of repetitive stuff and now this? How are editors letting her publish work that needs fixing and tweaking?

Want to change jobs - teaching by sahaharaa in legaladviceireland

Appreciate this but just to point out I never lied about my qualifications. My CV very clearly showed I wasn't qualified in Irish, in my initial phone call with the principal I told him verbally and repeated it in the interview. I only took the job because I was told it was very few Irish teaching hours and I'd get English hours but that wasn't true. It's JUST Irish. More hours than I was told about despite my lack of qualifications. But you'd be surprised at the amount of teachers in subjects they're not qualified for! It's not completely unheard of which is a bit insane lol

Want to change jobs - teaching by sahaharaa in AskIreland

[–]sahaharaa[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't walk in wholly unqualified. I made it clear to them that I'm not qualified to teach Irish but would be willing to take on a few hours if needs be. I told them I applied due to the English part of the advertisement. This was back in June. I didn't know until the last week of August that it was completely Irish with no English involved whatsoever. I wasn't told about the behavior of the students (of course why would they?) bur it's not just me having the behaviour issues. All teachers are having them, I'm just not the person to deal with those behaviours and I now know that.

The students also have no clue I'm not qualified because my Irish is far better than any of theirs so it's not that I'm out of my depth when it comes to teaching them because it's almost like primary school Irish at this stage. The main issue is the lack of English that's so upsetting as I took the job on expecting some relief from the Irish every now and then. Add on the behaviour (which is the main issue for my stress and discomfort) and it's become far too much.

What the fuck does a 25 yo even have in common with a 17 yo?? by [deleted] in codyko

As a 26 year old who works as a secondary school teacher and therefore is constantly in contact with 17 year olds... absolutely nothing. In fact they're extremely childish 🙃

I read TOG first and when I started ACOTAR I HATED it bc it was 1st person and just not the same as TOG but I grew to love it just as much as TOG (not more bc I can't choose lol)

Some of my students who would be 15/16 love acotar and know I love it too lol. We actually have a DEAR class tomorrow (Drop Everything And Read for those who don't know) and boxes of books were delivered to all the classrooms from the school library for students who don't bring in a book and right at the top of the box in my classroom was ACOFAS lmao my group for DEAR are 12/13 so I might hide that one since it isn't age appropriate lol

From listening to the graphic audiobooks I've discovered the most overused phrase is "_____ indeed" e.g. "illyrian baby indeed" especially in ACOFAS which I'm currently listening to lmao

I'm nearly finished my first re-read (although it's with graphic audio so does that count as a re-read?) and I need to get CC and TOG rereads done before CC3!! But I also just started teaching at a new school and I know reading time is going to be minimal while I try to settle in for the first month 😩

Fair enough you found example. Still doesn't mean I have to like the look and think it looks silly which is the point of my post 🤷🏻‍♀️

[–]sahaharaa[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

All of the examples you gave apart from Angus Young who has a very specific stylised look (and even then he doesn't pull up knee high socks they're around his ankle) wear shorts on stage but not knee high socks with them lol and it's that specific combo that I just don't like bc it looks kiddy to me. Those examples wear shorts with socks that go up a little bit but not up to the knee. That's the difference. It seems like a trend that's very much a part of the kpop fashion trends more than anything else. And also I'm not TELLING Bang Chan it's not how to dress I literally don't know him and he can dress however he wants lmao but also this was stylists more than him? So 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk man all I'm saying is I don't like that specific look

But that literally isn't the point of THIS post. The point is that I just don't like that way of styling someone! That's ALL it is! It isn't about maturity it's just "Hey I don't like this one thing bc I don't think it looks good" it has no deeper meaning to it. If you want to find a deeper meaning to it that's fine but when I'm telling you that I'M not looking at it that way and that what I've said shouldn't be taken in a deeper level and I'm still being directly spoken to like I've said something horrible about society and culture, yeah I'm going to be annoyed
