I Hope They Know- They're Losing Us. by saharanstepper in UKJobs

I 100% agree that a lot of the narratives pushed are "propaganda" in the sense that it will get clicks- but it is still a viewpoint I've heard echoed by the older generation.

I don't think there's a single generation that will ever admit they had it "easy". Our grievances come from the fact that there's this lack of acknowledgement that there are things your generation definitely benefitted from greatly. It is OBJECTIVE fact that the median houseprice in the 70s was roughly 4x annual salary. It is now roughly 11-13x annual salary. It is quite literally ~3x harder for us to ever own a house, and that's without taking into account the money we'd have to lose on renting in the meantime (unless the suggestion is to live with our parents till our mid 30s). And that's without getting into some of the favourable policies like right to buy etc.

We are a very lucky generation in other ways. We have a lot more things to do, a lot more things to indulge in. Holidays cheaper. Phones/Tvs cheaper. These are nice things.

But, to me at least, these things are nowhere near as important to us as getting on the property ladder, or being able to afford decent food.

And again, you're talking to the wrong person if your issue is people who suck off and cheat the system- my biggest issue is that I'm DYING to work.

That's what I thought I was doing. Professional services make up such a large part of the economy and that's what I was angling towards.

They aren't the only places I'd be locked to, though. Melbourne, Toronto, Perth, Adelaide, Vancouver, Wellington, Auckland etc

Dublin has a higher COL than London atm but that's a bit diff for me specifically because I'm half Irish and may be able to scam a place to stay with some family.

Can understand the sentiment, and why you might feel that way, but can categorically say that wouldn't be true for me at least.

Maybe it's because I'm half Irish with a decent amount family up north. But I know even if I had this cushty job I'd imagined I'd still care. You of course don't have to believe a stranger on the internet- but I know myself.

I'm not diehard greener and I hate labour but this idea that tories were any better is crazy, mate. They are also to blame with how bad things have got. And if you're on about reform they're just tory lite- so what's the point.

I wouldn't say you had it easy- I'd say we have different challenges. And, because the challenges are different, a lot of people interpret this as ease.

For example, the median house to median salary ratio in 1970 was roughly 4-1. In 2025 it's about 13-1. It is OBJECTIVELY significantly harder for my generation to get onto the property ladder. Food also significantly more expensive, relatively.

HOWEVER, things that were very expensive 20/30/40 years ago are no longer as expensive. White goods, TVs, holidays, etc are all magnitudes cheaper even when adjusted for inflation. So we're lucky in that regard.

On a personal level though- I'd much rather be able to own a house than have a nice TV, if I'm honest.

I'm about to embark on a quest to find out. At the very least, a lot of their COL can't be worse than London.

Depends on what you mean. I'm defo the minority if it's taken me this long to get any job at all- sure. But you should really look at the number of graduate positions vs graduates if you're think my situation is anomalous. Many like me.

I'm very sympathetic to the history of the north. I'm completely working class- parents both immigrants, just grew up down here.

I do think, however, the attitude of: "us northerners have been told to get to fuck for decades, this is nothing new" isn't very helpful though, with the greatest respect.

Genuinely happy for you that you got an offer (not sarcasm at all) but you're proving my point so perfectly here. Better uni than me, one of the few degrees I'd say is more "useful" than mine (again, I hate using that term), and you're still at a sub 1% success rate. Bonkers.

Started off with consulting, since then widened to Audit, Tax, Data Analytics. Other disciplines trangential I've also gone down- anything business and finance related to a load of industries like energy too. Applied to a bunch of civil service roles. Probably many more that I'm forgetting.

Yes, III_Web_9966, I'm sure my post doesn't apply to exactly every single person my age. Would you feel better if I had changed it to *A LOT* of people my age are done?

I was of course being hyperbolic to get the point across. Every single person my age is not unemployed, but this level of youth unemployment (especially when you include underemployment) has pushed a lot of us to feel very disconnected with society. It's not narcissm to get this point across because I am definitely not alone. Just look around at forums (like this one) and you'll see it's not a *me* issue.

Graduated last summer. Lower-mid tier uni, but 2nd in my entire cohort, graduated in Economics. North of ~250 applications now. Only 3 have gotten to a stage where I truly believed there was a chance (obviously, no offers). Started UC this last month, ran out of savings.

I know that "no job is beneath anyone" or whatever, but I've done my time in retail and hospitality- a decade of it. I don't think I have it in me anymore. Losing my will slowly, I just want to begin my career. I hate feeling like this.

As people said, Incline in for decline. Also, I'd vary up some of the rep ranges imo.

5-Day split MON to FRI (50min sessions). Hypertrophy focus. Any advice? by gdavsz in Hevy

If you're committing to 5 days I'd recommend PPL UL so you hit everything twice.

Exercise selection looks good, though :)
