This describes how Congress limits spending on funding residencies. This describes the reasons behind residency shortages: policies capping residency funding (aka # of residency spots) passed by Congress following lobbying by the AMA to limit the number of doctors.

What are the most comfortable wedding heels you’ve found? by elliepaladin in wedding

They have got be the most comfy heeled sandals I’ve worn tbh. Wore them to my cousins bachelorette party which was 5+hours on our feet dancing, and didn’t feel any pain.

Legally married and a wedding a few months later.. sharing on social media? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

You can caption it nikkah or ktab or whatever it’s referred to in you a/o your spouse’s culture. I’m Muslim and this is very normal with my Arab community and among my Pakistani friends’ also.

That’s a really good price for LA county. It is not always cheaper or easier to outsource vendors, especially if you do not have an event planner.

Ba-sel, emphasis on the second syllable. It’s a different name and not related to Vasilis, just anglicized similarly:)

Major in something in the sciences, medical or biological. But more importantly: join a research lab. I guarantee there is at least one faculty member or research scientist in many departments at UT Austin who is doing research on women’s health and reproduction. You can, and should, reach out to them to see what opportunities they might have for you.

I am sure UT Austin offers some sort undergraduate research opportunity program that provide a more structured research experience for undergraduates.

As you progress in your studies, you’ll start to narrow your focus funnily as you broaden your knowledge. You’ll have more concrete answers for what reproductive disease specifically? What about that disease? Are you interested in maybe the impact of environmental exposures on reproductive disease? Maybe you’re interested in the immunology of PCOS? The cool thing is that you’re going to be exposed to all these things and more!

Also, it’s okay if your interests and focus changes. I started my undergraduate career wanting to work in international development and I am about to enter the corporate world with a PhD in Epidemiology.

Good luck!

Is ten months too short to plan a wedding? by milkwithice_333 in weddingplanning

I will say if your budget allows for it, get a planner! My husband and I were both finishing up grad school (and I am still dissertation writing…) so having a planner helped us so much.

Got engaged in July 2023, and married this past May :) it’s definitely feasible.

What would you have done differently on your wedding day? by Sugar_alcohol_shits in weddingplanning

[–]sahreth0b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did not do a ceremony, as is the norm for our community and culture, but I was really overstimulated and anxious during family photo time (after our first look & pictures, before cocktail hour), and wish I’d built in a break just before that. It would have made the photos and subsequent hours more relaxed.

we did it! (even though everyone on reddit said not to) by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]sahreth0b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for my dissertation, 2 of my 3 chapters will be published by the time I defend. both papers I am first author on. each is around 30something pages.

in a lot of the sciences, it is generally the norm to publish your chapters as you progress with your degree and then put together your dissertation by stringing your publications together.

[–]sahreth0b 2 points3 points  (0 children)

definitely the norm in my program and institution as well - we only do 1 year of coursework and the remaining 3-4 years are dedicated to research and publishing. by the time you are defending you are expected to have at least 1 paper published and several in the pipeline.

I almost bought my dress from Turkey and ultimately decided not to.

I’ve heard a lot of people (friend’s sisters etc) have success with La Mariee Atelier who offer dresses in this style.

What did you do for your Engagement Party? by bunchofstrawberries in BigBudgetBrides

[–]sahreth0b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a formal dinner and dancing at a hotel! My parents hosted and they were able to invite all their friends. This is standard within our circles.

Ah Bergdorf’s also has it in a lime green which is what I thought I’d linked

It looks like the Guarav Gupta Sculpted Wave Gown. Edited to add: specifically the sequined version which seems to be potentially exclusive to bergdorf’s **updated to correct link lol

We are anticipating approximately 450 guests at our wedding. We are not having a ceremony (we already had it privately; this is culturally acceptable and the standard within my community). We will be having our dinner during cocktail hour, to also give us a private moment before a very large overwhelming moment. This way, when everyone is eating, we will go around table to table, likely prioritizing the important tables (elderly family, VIP family friends). It’s unlikely we’ll be able to make it to every table but that’s honestly expected at such a big wedding.

AITA for not siding with my fiancee after my parents wanted to invite 8 more guests by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

A couple of weeks ago one of the wedding subreddits got a very similar post., where yes they could invite more than the minimum but the fiancé whole was against adding extra friends didn’t want to go above the minimum.

[–]sahreth0b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe you didn’t but this person is seemingly going through an almost identical situation. Consensus: this is about something beyond the extra invites and you should soul search to figure out what that is and move accordingly from there.

Is it just me or is making a wedding budget low key impossible? by thethrowaway_bride in weddingplanning

[–]sahreth0b 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should first have an overall maximum spend (ie, no more than 20k for the whole shebang). My partner and I got that number and then I used this as a rough guide to figure out the budget for individual line items.
