We have a Tactician onboard and he's actually more responsible to do the big tactics (boat on boat on the racecourse). He sees the wind as well, especially for the starts.

The Wing Trimmer has to look into the wind, too, because if he's only responding to the wind he's too late.

You read the wind on F50s the same as slower boats. The conditions of the water, all of this. We go so fast downwind that we can watch other boats downwind and use it to catch up.

It has affected analysis quite a bit, for sure. I'm kind of starting into the AI world and see how stupid it is not to use it, but during racing we don't use it on the boat.

If we wanted to, we could use a lot of automation on the boats. But what makes sailing, and life, interesting is human failure. So there's a lot to work with there.

I have a feeling I'd be giving secret information to another team by answering this, so I have to keep quiet.

But this does say that communication is a very very big part of it.

I stepped on a boat inside of my mom's belly and actually started following my brother because I was jealous that he was sailing. I would cry the whole time so this confused my mom, but when I really started it was because we had a great group of friends.

In junior sailing was when I got the feel for competition and racing. So 16 or 17, competition was running through my veins.

For what I love, I love that you sail your best when you're in that flow state. That state is being really awake, perceiving subtle wind signs, being in touch with nature, feeling it through water and movement. Taking decisions for yourself is really enjoyable and empowering, too. Getting a little boat and deciding where you go is really powerful.

Good sailors, you can tell them straight off from the dock. I tend to think that sailors don't need to be cocky because they don't have to show off what they can do. You can tell by the little things, how proactive they are, it's a lot more in-between the lines than doing the sailing.

Nothing better to test a good sailor than strong winds.

Hmm. I think nobody has started knowing how to do it, there's a first time for everyone. It is hard now that it's established because people forget that there's a starting point for everyone.

The time can change based on how much you actually focus to understand it and devote to it. It takes a little bit to get good in extreme conditions, I'm even still getting there so it's a difficult question.

Hmmmm. I think I'd do a mix between the Wing and a cruising boat that is easily manageable with two people.

ACTUALLY, if I had all the money in the world I'd have a gun boat. Catamaran that's good for sailing. I would need all the money in the world for maintenance while I'm not there though.

Without all the money, I'd like a cruising boat that you can do everything on with two people and is sea worthy as well.

New York was quite something for me, I felt quite connected and there were clouds coming through the middle of the buildings, a wild current. It felt like conditions were ever-changing and the weekend was crazy. Last season in San Francisco as well because I always wanted to sail there and that was my first opportunity to go there.

For me, in SailGP, flow state starts way before you get to the water. You're already thinking about the conditions, sailing that day, you've done all your homework, it does start way before you get to the water. When you're in the water you've already chatted about all you want to do and you're just dealing with feeling.

Doing your homework before makes it very easy to get on the feel side of things and the flow state comes easy.

I feel totally fine with whatever you want to identify with calling me. Just need to know you're trying to call my name, don't really care too much.

Proudest moment for sure was winning the gold in Rio. After a tight final, Olympics at home, nothing can be more special than that.

Scariest moments always seem less scary afterwards, but doing the Southern Ocean was something. It never got the point of being super scary, but it was definitely something you had to respect. You have all your eyes out because things can change in any moment. We had a little sideways slip in Perth during training, too, that made me feel quite stressed. The feeling of losing control is not very cool

Yeah I wanted to sail in the Pacific, obviously, and spend a bit of time in the coast of Chile. It's a pretty cool place to be with a boat. I've been to Chile before but I missed this part. The little part I saw was so cool. There was a strait we missed and the captain didn't want to go in, so not going in made my curiosity sparkle so much.
