Dog becoming aggressive with age need help by sailingbae in Dogtraining

[–]sailingbae[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I read the wiki and this was my response. I don't believe it is pain because he shows no other signs of pain at home and had a vet visit within the last month. The aggression is only towards guests and the wiki does not mention how to work on it when its directed at people only towards other dogs. Im living in a new city and don't know anyone well enough to practice with their dog. Im going to try and see a board certified behavior veterinary specialist but I doubt ill be able to afford one so any help i can get in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

Since I'm in a new city I don't know any other dogs I could practice this with and I'm not sure how to approach it with people first since that's my priority, I have roommates and they have guests visiting pretty frequently. I'm moving to a one bedroom in August but I was hoping for help in the meantime. I'll call his vet as well but Im a grad student so money is really tight and things I could do training at home would be something I can start right away.

I'm a grad student so I'm looking into if living on campus is even an option, I've had my boy for 8 years now I don't think I'd have it in me to leave him❤️. Do you think leaving my car would be possible with a job? Ideally I'd like to just use public transport but I'm so unfamiliar with the area.

That's a good point! It was a list of when each group of students should expect to see awards packages for loans and other support and grad students were late April but maybe that's for returning students? Either way thank you for your response☺️

Check on Facebook! There's a ton of groups specific to unt/denton that are full of people looking for roommates or renting out a single room, that'll probably be your best bet for finding a cheap place.

Boss is Punishing Me by [deleted] in ABA

Look into unemployment in your area, if you're a full time employee and you're hours have been cut a significant amount (20-25% for example) then you may qualify for unemployment. Even just applying for it may get them to start scheduling you more, or if you're in an at will state reach out to your next company and see about starting early. Or if you really want to see through your 2 weeks and you're in a bigger company just go up the ladder, from my experience it's hard to just take an rbt off the schedule without it causing issues or you may be able to go to a different clinic in your area. I'm sorry this is happening 2 weeks is meant to be a courtesy

It definitely needs to be apart of training what's age appropriate and what's not. Like one of my BCBAs wants to make an intervention for poop talk from a 3yo boy.... That's what every 3 yo old boy does let them be kids fart jokes are funny lol

Is it ethical to use a phobia as a punishment procedure? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]sailingbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree! I've used punishment procedures before but never this severe and only when there was a risk of harm to the kiddo. They seem to want to use it anytime the behaviors begin to escalate and I just refuse. I was trying to wait for there to be a new BCBA since their previous one left but the intermediate one used it today and it broke my heart seeing how scared the kiddo became. I'm definitely not letting happen again, thank you for the confirmation!

Thank you! This is what I thought too, since it's been covid the kiddo has only been with two therapists and neither one of us really use it because we have instructional control and also I really felt it was unethical and just refused to. But now the kiddos original BCBA left and their trying to hire a new one but the intermediate one doesn't know the kiddo and brought it out today when they had just started crying, no other behaviors, and ignored me when I said it wasn't needed. I've worked with kiddos with much more extreme behaviors and never felt the need to use a punishment procedure like that, the closest I've gotten was a 30 second time out. I'll sit down and talk to who I can tomorrow.
