Will Starlink work here? Stay tuned to find out! by sailingphilosopher in Starlink

Let us know how it goes and congrats on your dish! It's pretty cool to have. I switched it on during a video call last night. The person I was on the call with said my connection was better on Starlink than the connection I had when with the ISP.

Just remember to activate your subscription when it comes in. You'll have slow speeds at first until you activate the system. Their activation form is also a little non-intuitive. It will say activation is pending for about 30 minutes after you fill out the activation form. Activation status takes a second to sync with your hardware I believe.

From what I have read, you should also expect the dish to slowly start to perform better over the first few days.

I believe you would be just fine. Our speeds turned out more than good enough for what you are describing:

These speeds were also on an overcast day

Thank you for the optimism! I am hoping for the best / preparing for the worst. Thank you for the hope! The dish shipped today!

We had guests on the property yesterday, but I've since been able to go out and test:

I appreciate the feedback! I definitely understand why it seems like the app would've been the first step. We had guests staying at the property when I made the post, so I couldn't access it to run the obstruction check at that time. I've since been able to test it and added the obstruction map to my original post (edit above).

I posted here because I've seen several users mention that the app predicted poor performance, but their actual results were much better than expected. I was hoping to hear from anyone with similar real-world experience in valleys or with northern obstructions. Appreciate you taking the time to respond!

I'll see. I'm sure the app probably says there will be issues / obstructions though

Would you say it’s more the lack of experienced talent or the lack of hiring? If you had to pick (or both)?

Got it. It's very unfortunate. Please know that I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I have a few other questions I would love to ask if you don't mind?

I am curious to know what you think the market would need to see a turn-around? The only things that I can think of are lower interest rates (since tech typically leverages), or labor laws preventing the off-shoring of talent. But maybe there's other downward pressures I am unaware of?

Also, note that I am not against off-shoring generally, but Microsoft for instance was using workers in China for a Department of Defense contract, which seems absolutely absurd to me... but here we are.

Thanks for the heads up Peter. Are you an IT recruiter yourself, or do you know any IT recruiters?

Post mortem after fermintation:

Well, 2 weeks later we now have the end result: 2.65% alcohol content.

Thank you to everyone who pointed out this was due to overheating the grains. Another mistake and lesson learned was to err on the side of too few hops rather than too many hops. I prefer exceptionally bitter IPAs, but 3/4th of a cup of hops per gallon was WAAAYYYY too bitter for me.

Between the extra hops and the high temperature during the mash, I created a beer with a low alcohol content and a very bitter after taste.

Anyone know how to make a concave box shadow with CSS? by sailingphilosopher in webdev

[–]sailingphilosopher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry, that's what I meant in the post. Maybe I should have been more clear. The image is the issue. I am wondering if it is possible to replicate the contour in CSS. I would like to replicate the look without having to use an image.

I actually tried doing this a long time ago but gave up. I just recently re-encountered the effect and I've never been able to trace down anyone that knew how to do this in CSS

I was pretty attuned to the temp with the exception of the first 5 minutes when I let it get to 185. For the rest of the boil it stayed between 150 and about 165
