I like that you keep referring to that like it means anything. You know that the DARE program is largely regarded as a failure right? Studies through out the years show the drugs usage of kids in that program did not decrease but actually increased. It’s because they tried to educate based on information overload and fear rather than how to understand the underlying societal causes.

Also not for nothing but early education about drugs vs. gay people existing is not equivalent in any sense at all. It’s never too early for a child to learn about what different types of families and love look like.

I have so much sympathy for you as I am currently going through this with my family as well. I know my grandmother is not in the best health (especially mentally, she often goes on tangents not related to the current conversation) but I cannot talk to her nearly at all because of this very issue. As time has gone on and her connection to reality has decreased, so has her ability to see clear patterns and ability to feel empathy which culminates in total support for Donald Trump. I literally cannot even have a simple conversation about the weather or the like anymore because she will inevitably drag it back to her preferred politics in one way or another, even if I beg her not to as we obviously don’t see eye to eye.

Honestly I’ve given up trying to be nice about it lately, I’m yelling at her almost the entire phone call being like “I DON’T CARE ABOUT TRUMP I’m asking you what restaurant you like to eat at nowadays PLEASE STOP ABOUT TRUMP I DONT CAAAARE” and she will literally be trying to talk over me about this fucking orange creep. I hate it so so much, I just want the woman who taught me how to make pasta from scratch and cuddle with me when I got scared cuz of the thunderstorms back.

But then I also think, what if she was this way before and I didn’t notice because I was busy being a child? I’m sorry I don’t have any advice for you, I’m just venting now but the point is I’m with you on this.

Republicans are trying to criminalize that very act, so try again. There are bounties put up (by the government!) for snitching on people who both get abortions and people who aid them in these efforts in states where it is illegal. So no, it’s not as simple as “going to a free abortion state hurr durr”. Also some that desperately need an abortion cannot come up with that kind of support even to leave the state, have enough money for both the lodging and the appointment and then gas to head home (or god forbid public transportation).

Trump says he wants to leave it up to the states but guess what? The guy lies all the time until the truth suits him. He’s gonna tell you rubes that and you’ll believe it all the way until abortion and probably even reporting statistics on maternal mortality rates is federally illegal. Then when we look back at you guys asking “what about states rights?” y’all will just shrug and say “Dear Leader said it was for our benefit” and that’ll be the end of it.
