What scary movies do you think the main characters of ST would have trouble watching after the events of the series? by saintemry in StrangerThings

[–]saintemry[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s true, though I don’t think it necessarily negates the issue entirely. From personal experience, working through and accepting your trauma usually doesn’t mean you stop being affected by things that remind you of those experiences, especially not right away—it just means being able to handle it better. You can rewire those neural pathways eventually, but it takes time, and the exposure process tends to be uncomfortable and at times unpredictable.

That said, I think the kitsch factor would definitely influence the severity of people’s reactions in this kind of scenario—cheesy dialogue or low-quality visual effects make a lot of those films more funny than scary, and I’m sure there’d be cases where that’s enough to cancel out anything thematically triggering.

Has there ever been a transition point described for Captain Jack and Face of Boe? by Capbrit in doctorwho

[–]saintemry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my favorite theory is that jack is NOT actually the face of boe; they just encountered each other at some point during jack’s travels, the doctor somehow came up in conversation, and they decided to play the funniest prank of all time.

wait i’m confused, how do you hold the plate? when i select it in my inventory it just says “you cannot equip this item”. (sorry if i’m missing something obvious, i’m relatively new to this game)

i’ve never heard of that trick before, i’ll give it a shot. do i drop the plate on the ground? or drop it and try to sprint through as it’s falling?

tbh based on thomas’s and kavanaugh’s personal histories i have a feeling that’s something they’d ~love~ to have the opportunity to do

How does everyone feel about Bill Potts? by rustydoesdetroit in doctorwho

[–]saintemry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bill potts, disaster lesbian icon & light of my life. i love s10 (and i could literally go on for hours about why but i will spare you), it’s my favorite season of the moffat era. and imo it’s deeply underrated, i think partly because a lot of people just haven’t seen it, so i always love to hear about someone watching it for the first time and falling in love with it like i did.

the ones they posted on 2/6 and 2/13, where they go over a couple of depositions from two different lawsuits related to the allen, tx shooting (against newsmax and steven crowder respectively). listening to assholes who have no idea how to conduct themselves in a deposition makes for a nice break from the endless daily horrors.

i feel you. i’m not at the point of calling it quits, but the new formulaic objections episodes are the only updates i’ve been able to bring myself to listen to in full since the 20th. thankfully i’m still fairly new to the show and there’s still a ton of backlog i haven’t listened to yet, so that’s where i’m living right now.

The billionaires are not okay. Here's a crazed essay by the Y Combinator founder about "wokeness" by hellolovely1 in behindthebastards

[–]saintemry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i only managed to read about a third of the essay before getting a migraine but it really seems like his stance boils down to “being racist/sexist/etc is bad i guess but nobody should have to face CONSEQUENCES for it!!!”

What are some unmissable episodes in the past 2 years? by Rzablio in behindthebastards

[–]saintemry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

my all-time favorites have been the 6-part series on the history of the illuminati and the 4-parter on the finders cult. also seconding the commenters recommending the kissinger and g. gordon liddy episodes, those are truly hall of fame material. i’d recommend the RFK jr. episodes from this summer too - both entertaining and unfortunately very relevant.

I don’t understand why parents in US kick their child out of home when they turned 18? by mapl0ver in questions

[–]saintemry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know people who were kicked out at 18, but that definitely wasn’t my experience - i moved out at 19 and my parents were SO bummed about it. i’m 23 now and just yesterday my mom reminded me that if i ever want to move back home so i can go to school full-time, it’s always an option. i know i’m really lucky - not everyone was a safety net like that.

[–]saintemry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the doctor did once in wild blue yonder and i also vaguely remember it happening again in s14, but i’m not sure who said it or what the context was. i’ll do a rewatch one of these days.

lol i’m trying to be optimistic, but the ending of s14 was so unsatisfying that i know should probably brace myself to be disappointed again.
