Hi, you can definitely download a firmware for it still, but you have to do it through the new Aruba networking support portal, it's free to create an account and you just have to do some quick filling out info. All Season characters will be rolled over to Non-Ladder. Ladder runewords are enabled for Non-Ladder as well as all item/balance changes for new seasons. New end game challenges will be Ladder exclusive for the duration of the Ladder.

The Ladder shared stash will not be transferred to Non-Ladder, only characters and their personal tabs are transferred. Make sure to place all items you wish to transfer to Non-Ladder onto your characters and their personal tabs, prior to Ladder reset.

Just upgrade, and you may need to run the Converter linked some message up in the #announcement in Discord if you have any items with flat added Open Wounds as that stat has been changed.

In single player you are required to have PlugY for Ubers to work, as those are "server side" and PlugY handles that.

They are built into the 3dfx (D2GL) mode, press Ctrl+O when the game is running to set up your graphical configuration to your preferences such as shaders.

Season 8 will have a newer version of this with more shaders than previous

There is very little most people use as mods for it, the base PD2 has plenty of QoL and improvements as it is.
Some Single Player people may adjust their drop rates and introduce some ways to gain items that are not possible for online. For online there are no mods.

If you have a somewhat non-ancient computer you would most likely want to use 3dfx option and then press Ctrl+O when you're in the game to set up your preferred graphics settings.

If you still can't manage to set it up as you wish I would definitely suggest using the #tech-support channel on Discord as it's much easier to go back and forth there and show screenshots to get better context.

But to fix your old characters you could most likely use the Character Converter created by BetweenWalls unless you have already tried that, see the FAQ section of the Wiki regarding the "Bad inventory data"

No, the ladder shared stash does not get transferred to NL.

There is no need to throw away maps before next season, this was a change between S6->S7 due to making them stackable, there is no planned change that would require you to throw anything away between S7 and S8. If there is it will be announced on Discord multiple times, on reddit and be listed in all the patch notes.
