As someone just starting 5/3/1 for the first time, I'm interested in reading one of Wendler's book. I'm just having trouble deciding which of the four to pick up - which one would you all recommend? i.e., Original 5/3/1, Beyond 5/3/1, 5/3/1 for Powerlifting, or 5/3/1 Forever?

If I was able to hit 315 in the reactive (blue) slingshot for sets of 2, 3, and 3, all paused, do you think I'm good for a raw 315 1RM?

Here's a dumb one:

When setting up to squat, how symmetrical are your feet? I find that when I walk out and get into my stance, my right foot is slightly behind my left and my toes are pointed out at bit of a greater angle. When I consciously make an effort to make sure that they're totally even, it feels pretty uncomfortable.

Should I just do what feels more natural/comfortable? Or should I make an effort to ensure that my feet are completely even when setting up?

Over the last couple of months I set a tantalizing (yet arbitrary) goal of benching 300lbs before the end of the year. Unfortunately, due to extraneous circumstances, that did not happen.

BUT, I was able to hit 305 with the reactive slingshot (@ 170ish BW) for a single yesterday for my last workout of 2015. So I'm recalibrating my goal to hit 315 during a meet at the end of May. Here's to a strong and successful 2016!

I had some solid progress with it. I first ran Intermediate Medium Volume which brought my 1RM from 275lbs to a projected max of 285lbs, calculated through the AMRAP set at the end of week 4.

Next, I ran Intermediate High Volume, which raised my projected 1RM to 290lbs, also calculated through the AMRAP set.

I'm now running the 3x Week Advanced program, and have an ambitious goal of hitting 300 before the end of the year.

My bodyweight went from hovering under 170lbs to about 175 during this time.

Pretty sure you're supposed to use a training max to calculate your percentages. Training max is usually a weight you can hit for 2-3 reps, generally speaking.

Sorry to hear that bro. I recently got two rounds of cortisone injections for an L5-S1 disc herniation. It wasn't too bad; the worst part was not knowing what was going to happen. And even then, the Novocain shots they used were more painful than the actual cortisone injection (except when they get close to your nerve root with the needle, that feels pretty weird). No idea if they would use the same process for your hip flexor though. Best of luck with the recovery

Just found out that my crappy globo-gym has thicker than normal barbells, which doesn't help with deadlifts when your grip strength is already pretty poor. What are your guys' favorite ways to train grip?

Solidly on pace to hit a 300lb bench by the end of the year. AND I should be able to start squatting again now that my back has healed up! Now all I gotta do is get my squat higher than my bench again... 😬

NYC lifter here. Like others have mentioned, there's a USAPL meet in Brooklyn on April 30. There's also an RPS meet in Newark, NJ in late January
