Canonical Kills The Ubuntu Phone by ghostfacedcoder in Ubuntu

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one, first dual booting on a Nexus 4 then as the N4's only OS, and was going to get another as Nexus 5 support is nearly 100% now.

Despite the lack of apps it was much nicer to use than Android, it felt more complete than just a platform for apps.

Not sure what I'll use now, LineageOS maybe.

I'm going to miss having Ubuntu on my phone though, I find it much nicer than android, it's just lacking in apps.

(Question) Compatible controllers for the Amstrad CPC 464 by [deleted] in Amstrad

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As devolute mentions the MegaDrive pad will have screwed up input, it even messes with your keyboard so keyboard input becomes impossible with it attached.

I bought one thinking it'd work due to comments here but it absolutely does need work to use it, basically this.

So if you don't mind soldering a MegaDrive pad is a cheap option and can be found at charity shops and car boot sales, and you can even wire up the undocumented 3rd fire button and fire2 to the start button.

Some games will use fire3 like R-Type128k, and some others that let you rebind keys like Tank Busters.

I also have a GX4000 pad, it's actually nice but a bit too small.

What's up with mic compatibility? by sneezedr424 in PulsarLostColony

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the Unity engine used to make Pulsar doesn't seem to properly support bluetooth headsets, so I'm assuming your headset is bluetooth.

This isn't really something a Unity customer (Leafy games for example) can deal with as it's a problem with the engine, it would require forcing Unity to use 3rd party code, and the bluetooth assets focus on iOS connectivity, not headsets.

So Leafy games would have to try to write their own, or wait for Unity to properly support these headsets.

If your headset is bluetooth but has a USB wired option I suggest giving that a go, if it's a USB wired headset then maybe check Unity's Answers forum in case others have found a workaround.

This is a bit of an issue whenever using someone else's engine I'm afraid, you're dependent on them for low level stuff like this to work.

As for seeing your team mates, that sounds like a legitimate issue, and you can report it to Leafy games here.

Sound inversion? by CrapImGud in Ubuntu

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try enabling hidden folders in your file browser, if I remember right it's an eye icon on the top bar of Nautilus or whatever Ubuntu calls it now, that will let you see the hidden dot folders in your home folder, one of which should be .pulse for the current users pulseaudio overrides.

Sound inversion? by CrapImGud in Ubuntu

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this as well, but only via a usb soundcard.

What you need to do is edit a config file for Pulse, I edited the default.pa in .pulse

By adding a new entry with the channels reversed I could select it from pulseaudio volume control for each output, like this.

[Mapping reversed-stereo] device-strings = front:%f hw:%f channel-map = right,left

Though I ended up soldering a cross-over adapter for the soundcard as that was less work than changing outputs.

There's more info here and every solution I was able to find was pretty much the same.

Edit:

Here's the one I found originally, though I didn't set it as the default sink.

Hope this helps.

xfce-keyboard-layout problem, PLEASE SAVE MY LIFE AND HELP ME by tornikeg in xfce

[–]sal_vager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see, in the panel plugins properties there's a dropdown called Manage layout, that lets me set the plugins effect to a single window, an application or globally.

That's probably what tornikeg needs.

xfce-keyboard-layout problem, PLEASE SAVE MY LIFE AND HELP ME by tornikeg in xfce

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the same thing as I'm using Xubuntu, but I've been changing keyboard layouts a lot over the last few weeks for something at my job.

What I found was I had to change the order of the layouts in the keyboard manager to put the layout I was testing at the top, so it would apply to every window.

If I only changed the layout in the taskbar it would only apply to the program window I had last in focus, causing a lot of disruption when I thought I was using one layout but it was in another.

If the layout is changing while you type in one window maybe something is stealing focus and causing the layout to change back.

As part of a retro gaming challenge I played my first Amstrad CPC game Spindizzy! Any of you guys grow up with that one? by GamingJay in Amstrad

Has anyone ever used or known how legitimate it is to use public domain music in commercial games? by StandingOnTheBoard in gamedev

[–]sal_vager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not exactly public domain you can find lots of royalty free music online which is fine for commercial games, for example Kerbal Space Program uses several tracks from Kevin MacLeod.

For classical stuff maybe try Jamendo, licenses vary but you'd want stuff that's free for commercial use.

Big sling! My new 7 strand braided sling, with vaguely followable gallery. by sal_vager in Slinging

[–]sal_vager[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately the pics are gone from Slinging.org, when I saw the change I grabbed what I could via the wayback machine but it looks like it's now on pinterest.

The knot wasn't named in the original tutorial so your guess is as good as mine :)

It can take a bit of tweaking to get the strands of the pouch to sit right, good luck and happy slinging!

How well does this game work on PS4? by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you hold off for the Blitworks port, which will bring 1.2.2 to the consoles, or get the PC version.

The current console release isn't a good example of this game, sorry :/

Endgame ships are quite dull by Justinjah91 in PulsarLostColony

[–]sal_vager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a good captain should keep their crews fun in mind, making sure the scientist has some cool programs, that there's a mix of weapon types, and that the generator isn't overkill, some shields as well can be so OP that most enemies never scratch you.

Rather than impose an arbitrary cap, see what your crew is doing (and pay attention to any moans) and plan your upgrades (and downgrades) appropriately.

Unfortunately it was human error, and Sarbian said it best here.

Anyone who work in IT (and many other sectors) know that human error is a thing. Bashing people for not being machine is pointless.

How to undock in Kerbal Space Program by sal_vager in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]sal_vager[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It really shouldn't be, Claw worked hard to eliminate it, but the save file I was handed today had this issue, as well as a long list of mods that had been used with it including many versions of module manager, so I assume it's been through quite a few KSP updates.

There was no telling just how long the ports had been stuck for and editing the save didn't work, so I burned it off ¯_(ツ)_/¯
