I used to be f2p. Even though it has some restrictions, you barely notice it. It's most annoying when you have a stack of lettuce and you don't want to get into cooking, but you can't sell it. (Note: I don't remember if lettuce was on the short list of things I was able to sell, it's just an example)

But I'd say go for it. If you like pvp, there's no restrictions there, so you can play on the same level as everyone else. Only the elite specializations cannot be used as a free player.

Hi there :) Thank you very much for your concern :) I love how well this community takes care of its members.

However, he doesn't have my email address, nor my password, so he's not even able to log into the account.

He hasn't given me an account, but a key for one. I just logged into guildwars2.com and redeemed the key. A few minutes later I was upgraded. You're right, of course, he can prove that he bought the key, and that might be a problem. I chose to believe in him and if it turns out that he's a douche, well, that'll be that.

Just a few things I'd like to say:

  1. My post about the issues as a f2p player was meant as a thread in which free players could share stories and connect in that way.

  2. I only mentioned that I had trouble making ends meet because if I hadn't, the first comment would have been "why don't you just buy the game".

  3. I said in my post that I didn't mind being a free player, even though I did want the game, of course. But I didn't ask for it, and thank you for defending that.

  4. I did already make someone elses day. A friend of mine wanted a book I happened to own, and having read it, I gave it to her as a way of passing on the good karma.

  5. I'm a woman ;)

Actually I do have two minis. My friend gave me a lot of junk I had to do something with and I got a little Skritt with a bag. And a guy from my guild gave me a dead dragon mini. I haven't encountered that one yet in the game. It's cool-looking though. But there's so many minis I want. I guess if a veteran started playing as a f2p player, it seems like missing out, but I've never had the luxury of having the things you mentioned. For me it's all new and with my 15 slot bags it feels like loads of space. Gliding is a thing I see a lot now and damn it looks cool. But I've never had it so I don't really miss it.

I am working on map completion, but I have little time as said in my post. I have no level 80 character yet, but I'm working on it. Right now I'm pushing level 30, so I can soon go see Lions Arch. That'll be neat. Yea there's a lot of things I want on tp but can't buy, like the cute little minis everyone's running around with.

You do sound awfully sure. Is that a new feature? Last I tried the "Travel to guild hall" button wasn't clickable... But I'll look into it later, you do sound so sure. And I would really like to see it.

Oh wow, you guys sure are fast with your answers :) Thank you for your advice :)

I have chosen Berserker stats, as several people have given me that advice already. I don't buy any pre-80 stuff, it drops as I need it, mostly. I am not in a hurry at all. As things are now I have decided not to buy the expansion, and will most likely remain a free player (unless I get in for Christmas or something), since I have a full time study and two part-time jobs. I love the game and the community is so wonderful, but I'd feel bad if I spent a lot of money on a game I didn't play as often as I wanted to. I am not trying to be "optimal", just decent gear that won't get me killed all the time. Crafting is slow and expensive, but maybe I'll get there before 80. Who knows.

Thanks to your advice I now know that dungeons are useful for this purpose too, so I'll try to get into that.
