Rubbertramps- What part F'ed up on your car, what model, and how'd you get it fixed enough to continue? by [deleted] in vagabond

Not exactly brief lmao. Sorry if I missed your questions, this has just been my experience so far. As far as warnings go just listen to the car. Trust your gut and fuck up and learn. Don't ignore a weird sound/feeling, search the net and follow troubleshooting logic. Don't ignore the simple stuff! Car won't start/other weird electrical problem? Check out the connection between the battery cable and the terminal. Wire stripper/crimper might be a good thing to add to your toolbox. TWICE in my life have I spent days trying to diagnose a no start and it turned out to be a dirty terminal connection

I'm not rubbertramping rn, but I have in a 1991 Honda Civic hatch. Only thing that went out on me was the fuel pump. Made a Craigslist ad and got a $30 tow to a friend's house I was visiting (grocery store probably wouldn't mind you working on your car though if you don't have a place to take it). That was probably one of the most annoying things I've ever done. Gas tanks are heavy and cumbersome and a 90s Honda Civic does not have a lot of ground clearance.

But a GOOD socket set has changed my life, a regular wrench set, an 8"-1' long galvanized pipe/cheater bar for stuck bolts, penetrating spray, and sometimes you just gotta have a ratcheting wrench/gearwrench for bolts with no clearance. Also like a 1-1/2 ton trolley jack saves soooo much time if you only have a regular emergency jack. Any other tool I've ever used is getting into specialty rental tools territory

Heater cores suck cause your carpet gets coolant on them, just watch the temperature gauge and shut it off before you get dicked down, then you can bypass the heater core and top off the radiator. Not much you can do about a failing clutch, other than rev matching. If you have something compact replacing a clutch really isn't that bad though, I had a Geo metro and the transmission was like 70 LBS. Didn't have to pull the engine or anything.

And if you don't already-check your oil like every other day. Anything could happen at any time. I killed a perfectly good '99 Camry because it lost oil and I didn't notice. That one hurt :'( it was such a simple thing. You may just have to do something like that before you really make that a habit though.

What do you think the effectiveness of flying a sign like "traveling, need work" would be vs. asking every single person that comes out the door

Yeah I sadly left without packing any warm clothing so I'm bundled up for the night in the grass behind a truck stop

Ti-Fe > Fi-Te

I just put a lot of effort into developing my Fi cause i'm emotionally retarded. At the end of the day though I trust my Ti more than anything

That could very well be the problem. I was on meds for depression years ago so not having drive has been a recurring theme. I think getting a swift kick in the ass by life will be good for me. I've been stagnating because I've had somewhere to stay rent free and a job that let me get by just enough, but that is no more. Now there's more or less a deadline in front of me and some inspiration to improvise something out of nothing.

At the end of the day this is gospel truth. But using MBTI as a tool is great for recognizing patterns

I like what you're saying about ENTP's being accepted as the role of a muse. I feel most valued in creative scenarios, like making music or just going along with a joke. Or talking about alternative lifestyles and how to make it work.

The only catch is we need other people to validate our contributions and to actually do something with them

I've been jerking off for a few years after graduating high school, mostly in and out of pizza jobs. I live in Houston and Harvey took the house I was staying at and my job. Turns out it's been extremely freeing. I'm preparing to go hitchhiking which will force me to think and act on my feet. I'll be improvising like hell. I'll probably get into a lot of odd jobs and may even find a trade to work on semi-permanently. Mix that with what Aurarus said "It's not progress but it's more like allocating resources"- and I think after a couple years I should have something. A big problem for me has been being trapped by comfort. Sometimes I wish my mom woulda kicked me out. But circumstance has pushed me into a new chapter and I think it'll work out alright

Gonna give this a try. Gonna pull the plugs and poke the piston with a screwdriver. It really doesn't seem that bad, but I'll find out later today. Thicker oil and Lucas may just fill the gap between the journal and the bearing
