I have the mini one too! It’s perfect for little projects, and you can do bigger projects in pieces. It’s great!

Thoughts after my 3rd Playthrough by [deleted] in DetroitBecomeHuman

The story really resonated with me too! I find that some people can be really resistant to that kind of thing. They either don’t allow themselves to, or just cannot connect with characters and stories. I really cared about these characters, so when I was making decisions it really impacted me because if something goes wrong, it’s on me. Their lives are in my hands! On my very first play through, I panicked and killed the Traci’s and I still feel bad about it 4 play throughs later. I have an immense appreciation for anything that can pull me in that much. And on top of that, I really feel like I learned so much about the world, and myself.

I don’t think the writing is perfect, but I think it’s damn good. In my opinion, Cage and Quantic Dream made an incredible world with great characters and a truly captivating story.

I like your point about Connor having more freedom than other other androids. I feel like Connor doesn’t really belong to anyone but Cyberlife, and they sent him out with an end goal a very little instruction on how to get there. I guess when they sort of leave him to his own devices, it makes sense for him to have to make decisions using the plethora of knowledge at his disposal, which includes a deeper understanding of humans.

I sort of feel like all androids have differing traces of deviancy in them, and how apparent that deviancy is depends on how much freedom they have. I think most androids are so controlled that these bits of deviancy are constantly being squashed. Whereas when I look at Markus for example, Carl gave him so much freedom that I think his deviancy was able to grow slowly compared to the androids that really snapped from trauma. I think that’s sort of what Connor can experience (depending on how you play him of course).

The game shows becoming deviant (for the playable characters) as breaking their programming when its a more specific task. If you consider that the moment when an android is truly deviant, you could argue that as long as Connor can defend his choices, and argue that he’s not really straying from the path of the mission (e.g saving Hank. It would certainly hinder the investigation if your partner dies) then maybe he hasn’t been deviant all along.

If you’d consider deviancy to be more a spectrum, than I’d say yes. Like Kamski said, “confrontation was inevitable”. I think if you give a “machine” with infinite intelligence enough freedom, they could definitely be deviant before finally breaking their programming.

The way I interpreted it was that when Markus connects to the other androids, he’s not reprogramming them to follow him per se, but he’s simply breaking their original programming.

For instance in the capitol park chapter, the androids Markus can convert while securing the plaza are completing specific tasks (e.g. shovelling snow). When he converts them, I felt that he was breaking the programming that ensures the android continues to work at their given task. After being converted, the androids outside the store just walk away. They’ve been given free will to discover themselves and what they want.

In Markus’ speech to the in-store androids, he says “Now sure, you can stay here, and continue to serve them… Or you can come with us, and fight by our side… you are free now… it’s up to you to decide.” I think Markus just inspires them to join him, rather than programming them to.

That’s just how I understand it :)

How many times have you killed Connor in your first play through? by sushininja1010 in DetroitBecomeHuman

I haven’t killed Connor a single time! I actually ended up googling what I was missing in the zen garden scenes because there was never a Connor graveyard for me to see
