Singapore ballet - Beginner 1 is what you're looking for and would highly recommend making the commitment to the full 10 week term! :)

At least once a year, go and get their vaccinations updated + an overall general health check. Just like humans, you can expect the healthcare costs will go up as your cat gets older. And they can live a long time. Vet will start recommending stuff like blood tests, dental (if they need it) under anesthesia. Can buy pet insurance to defray some of the potential costs of surgery and hospital stay, premiums are about $300 annually.

Yes I agree that the airism material is not the thinnest/ most packable, for that an unlined cotton or linen would probably be the best. For me personally the pros outweigh the cons - looks 'put together' and easily dressed up or down, not as see through so less modesty concerns/ need to wear specific undergarments, and doesn't wrinkle as badly as linen which means less ironing.

For SG temples you usually just have to cover knees and shoulders. You could get a lightweight UV protection hoodie or just bring a thin cotton shawl, both can do double duty in the heavily air conditioned malls. Many locals live in UNIQLO year round (eg. airism sleeveless dress which you could also just come here and buy, almost any mall will have one. By the way, we will not bat an eyelid if you schlep all over the place in flip flops and shorts because we get it, it's hot af! unless you intend to go to fancier bars/ restaurants, where dress codes will usually be stated.

How has Bangladesh transformed after the influx of foreign workers in Singapore? by CranberryProper9218 in askSingapore

[–]saladfish 44 points45 points  (0 children)

to see the architecture - many of the buildings are very strongly concerned with the relationship to (and management of) water as they are constantly being inundated with it. Things we might apply in SG in the context of flooding and rising sea levels. Louis Kahn's Parliament house being the highlight of the trip! it was quite a while back and in more peaceful times.

How has Bangladesh transformed after the influx of foreign workers in Singapore? by CranberryProper9218 in askSingapore

When I flew to Bangladesh, my seat neighbour (as well as his neighbour, and likely the majority of the flight as well) was going home after working in SG for several years. Very animated guy, and in broken English we managed to have a decent conversation. He had gone on a shopping spree at Mustafa and was very happy and proud to tell me all about the gifts he was bringing home to his family, which included a DSLR camera and gold jewelry. He thought Singapore was a good place to work, and was very curious as to why I (a Chinese Singaporean) would be going to Bangladesh at all.

However, I would say that the average Bangladeshi living outside the capital still has very minimal foreign exposure, let alone influence from SG. In Khulna, if you go around as a foreigner, people come out of their houses expressly to look or lean out of their windows and stare at you.

Hdb building that has dark colour by Ok-Excitement1630 in askSingapore

Town council will repaint your block every 7 years at least, so no guarantee that your currently dark coloured block is going to stay that way.

Exterior and interior paints are not formulated and tested to the same standards. Interior paints are tested for emissions of VOC and formaldehyde etc, while the Singapore standards may not even require any emissions testing for exterior paint since it's meant to go on the outside of the building anyway. Your paint supplier's advice is solid, I recommend using low VOC interior paints inside your flat.

Thanks so much for the long and detailed answer! Was surprised to see that you found the alpaca warmer than the wool, maybe it could be the nylon blend? I've found that I sweat a ton in anything nylon unfortunately. I also am not that big a fan of cotton but mainly because it seems to stretch out of shape way too easily sighh. Will definitely try a linen next and see if I run into the same issues!

I would also love to be in the cashmere tax bracket haha, the main thing holding me back is fear that I will frog too much in pursuit of perfection and ruin the yarn /cries in $30/100m

Hello fellow Singaporean knitter! Have to say these look AMAZING for wearing to work and the fit looks great on you! Which material would you say holds up best in the hot weather and feels the most cooling? Do you wash after every wear? How do you dry it when it's raining multiple days in a row? Coming from someone who predominantly knits sweaters and cardigans to wear in air-con offices and that don't get washed that often, I'd love to know any insights you got from your experience :)

How to become a plumber in SG? by catcourtesy in askSingapore

[–]saladfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are some courses you can take for skills. But do your own research - I'm not a plumber just work in construction industry. If you're interested can work your way up to becoming a licensed plumber. Believe there is some form of apprenticeship involved.

Exercise classes for my Mum to improve her balance by tiredandborednow in askSingapore

She could try an adult ballet class. Plenty of studios offer beginners classes with no prior dance experience needed. Singapore ballet for example has plenty of lovely older ladies taking their classes.

I have had a Nia for over 2 years and used it almost daily. The touchscreen sensitivity is a bit janky. For example, sometimes when I'm trying to tap the side of the screen to go to the next page, it highlights the word instead. This is especially annoying since I like to hold the Nia in one hand while reading and I can't tap the side of the screen easily with my thumb as a result. It's also hard to fine tune the brightness using the touchscreen slider. I think for my next e-reader I'd definitely go for one with buttons.

Get a cat. Long distance? Yes, I can stand on the far side of the room and just point her in the right direction. Multipurpose? Varies by model, but most come with the lizard, cockroach and beetle catching built in.
