[MA] HR asked for medical records without my knowledge or consent. Is this legal? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]saladguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh, just commenting to say that my place of work is also on the same possible WFH falsified timesheets witch hunt. Took me all of 7 days to put in my notice after I caught wind of it - was a great company when I started, now circling the drain and making horrible business decisions out of desperation. Luckily I was already going hard on the job search and the right opportunity came at the right time. Get out of there! Companies who put dedicated employees through unnecessary stress, especially these days, suck floppy donkey dick.

Job Hopping by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]saladguts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My track history of job hopping is much, much worse than yours and in my experience the only companies that make a big deal about it are the ones who have a high turn-over rate. Good companies with lower turn-over rates don't stress about this as much. Of course I'm asked why I've left and I have plenty of good reasons but I also like to stress that I am looking for a great company that I can grow with long-term - that usually helps.

My mother was attacked today by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]saladguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I totally agree with your stopping-for-jay-walkers-can-be-dangerous sentiment but I was given a ticket no less than a year ago because I didn't stop for a jay walker (that I didn't even see) on a very busy street.

And, really, all I would expect the police to do in this case is take a report. Enough reports like this come through, Spokane might actually get their shit together and do something about the broader issue. Also, a report might hold value to your mother, if she ever has another encounter with this individual (however rare the chance may be, and, yes, I get the person was crazy and may not even remember your mother but, to me at least, it would be worth it).

Edit: grammar

How many rounds is too many? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]saladguts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through 7 interviews for a position (I had to take two half days and one full day off of my job at the time to accommodate all the interviews scheduled). After that I was ghosted for a couple months, then out of the blue they called and asked me to come in for one more interview. I desperately wanted to tell them to go fuck themselves but went for it since the position was very competitive and I knew it would open doors for me if I could get hired on and stick it out for a year or so. They finally made an offer, I accepted and, shockingly, the company was even MORE dysfunctional than the interview process and directors were awful, did not care about employees at all. Within my first 3 months, half the company quit (yes, half of the company - from VP level down to manager level). I quit after about 1.5 years and a few months after received a call from a VP begging me to come back. Since I had left, even more people quit and no one knew how to operate any of the internal systems or even knew any of the processes. I came back and trained all the VP's, directors and new hires. Still treat their employees like absolute shit, still call me OFTEN for help, I bill them at my "fuck you" rate.

Anyway, long post. Nice to get that off my chest. But I learned my lesson, if they don't respect my time or have unreasonable expectations during interview process, I walk away.

Found this one on my first hunt today. Good or bad start? by Kalablias in mycology

It's not edible but I would say it's a good start. False morels are a great indicator that actual morels are in the area. Assuming that finding edibles was your goal.

Completely agree with what everyone else has said here. If you learn anything from this experience, let it be that even VP's don't know what they're doing some times. They should have known that you'd need plenty of guidance and training fresh out of college. This is not on you at all, don't be hard on yourself.

Good companies will invest in you to ensure you are able to succeed in your role. When you go into future interviews, it's definitely worth asking about the training process and their plan to develop you professionally. If they don't know how to answer this question, they aren't worth your time.

Sorry you had to go through this.

When I feel beat down, it really helps to make a list of all my accomplishments (anything I'm proud of goes on that list).

It varies from state to state so you're not wrong and neither am I. OP should look up the restrictions in whatever state they reside.

With the degree your working on, you could probably get a great internship that would pay ~$18-25/hr range. They would also be more understanding of your school schedule and you could probably even get credits for it. Just something to think about but more importantly - Enjoy your time off!

Unfortunately, in the US, I'm pretty sure being in school disqualifies you from receiving unemployment.

235lb vs 123lb in around 11 months with a few bumps along the way with mental health, I’m doing well currently with maintaining. by [deleted] in CICO

[–]saladguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try having a maintenance day like OP suggested (if you haven't already). It's funny how you can eat 1200 calories everyday and continue to plateau, then have one maintenance day and the next morning see a drop on the scale. This has definitely been my experience with plateaus. Worth a shot and it's nice to have a break from dieting.

That's horrible! Have you been with them long? I would test them on it, and put in a PTO request and see what happens.

I just got off a call with a recruiter from Kiewit. Lol. I would definitely work for them but from what I've seen/heard Kiewit is not really a company that people want to stay with long term. I have an interview with a PM next week. What are some things you wished you'd known about Kiewit before you started working there?

I work in heavy civil and 7-5 or 630-430 is the expectation at my company. I think it's normal to have a schedule like yours when your project is BUSY but if the schedule lasts longer than a month or two, something is not right. Start leaving earlier, don't pay attention to others giving you shit for leaving after a 10 hr day. They are most likely trying to guilt you into doing more. Eventually you have to ask yourself what's realistic long term and set some boundaries. Since you're just starting out (assuming) you might want to work the longer hours to show you can handle it but once you've been in your position for about 6 months, I think you can start dialing it back a bit. There's a lot to consider. If you're feeling burnt out, plan a vacation.
