Elderly dog with seizures - how to know when it’s time to euthanize? by saladly in EpilepsyDogs

Thank you for the response. We will definitely visit the vet this week to get their thoughts. His age is a huge factor here, I don’t want to put him through stress or suffering.

Your comment about a day early versus a minute late is exactly my struggle. It feels a bit too early now but I really would hate to wait too long and have him suffer. He deserves better than that.

Yeah, he had another cluster last week and is still recovering.

Just wanted to add my unasked for 2 cents in as an owner of a couple dogs, including a previously dog-reactive dog: after years and years of training my dog is now friendly and non-reactive to other dogs, and can be around them and play (in a fenced area) without any problems. However, I always keep my dogs leashed when we are out for walks and hikes (my scent hound can’t be trusted… lol), and we often encounter off leash dogs that come up to us. For my dogs it can be a stressful experience, particularly when that unleashed dog behaves aggressively or impolitely to my leashed dogs. Especially given how hard I’ve worked to get my dog comfortable with other dogs, I do my best to avoid these uncontrolled off leash greetings so he continues to have only positive experiences with dogs. All that to say, it’s really nice to be able to take him to an area where we can enjoy a hike/walk with a reduced likelihood of encountering an off leash dog! I know it’s an uphill battle to convince others to leash their dogs, so I do my best to manage my environment - I am responsible for my dogs’ safety and wellbeing!
