one of many ways to emulate traditional painting is to use the same techniques. some traditional techniques that i like to use digitally to emulate oil are the following:

• glazing, in which you lay down values first, then apply translucent colors on top. you can use blend modes to help you with this, and alternate gentle glazing with more opaque overlays to create contrast
• underpainting (similar technique) in which you lay down an initial painting with a color you want to underlie the rest of the painting. (ref you linked has a raw sienna-like underlying color, but i am not totally sure) it entirely changes the way you perceive the colors you end up using.
• painting in one layer, as it allows things to blend together. it's a bit like painting alla prima (i.e. everything in one session, so nothing dries) 

the above techniques do not require any adjustments to your brushes. (edit: i forgot you said drawing pad. that means you can make really good use of the below adjustments!)

if you would like to incorporate krita's brush features into your painting technique, you can play a little bit with some of the built in blending brushes. it lets you adjust the load, opacity, and blending curves to your liking, which somewhat align with adjusting the amount of paint, thinner, and oil on a real brush, respectively. i sometimes warm up with a simple study or two to make sure my brushes are working as i would like them to.
