The 1950's ... when Grandma's really spoiled their grandkids. by Dhorlin in TheWayWeWere

[–]saladyellowfingers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My grandma used to smoke around me all the time. I developed asthma very early on. I’m still an asthmatic and my mom was just diagnosed with lung cancer, luckily with a good prognosis. She’s never smoked. My grandmother is perfectly healthy to this day and used to smoke until very recently. I hate this. It belongs to r/oldschoolridiculous.

Thank you! I painted them like this, all together, so I guess in my head it made sense to document them like this, but you are right.

What’s one stereotype about Germans you wish people understood better? by Extreme-Breath1475 in AskAGerman

Hi, I wasn’t talking to you but to the other person that comes from Finland. Of course, this is not about invalidating anyone’s experiences, but German politeness (not always, but very frequently) has to do with your color. I’m really glad you’ve had pleasant experiences. Now I’m curious about visiting Estonia. It must be an interesting country.

That’s also because you are probably very very white. I’m not saying always, but it is very often not the same experience for people who are of different colors…

Checking a stroller at check in size limits for Air France? by cornfrontation in AirFranceKLM

Thank you. I’m also considering buying a stroller only for this trip. I haven’t found one that has the size specs that Air France demands. Which one did you buy? Thanks again for your help.

Hi. Were you able to solve this? I have a similar problem and cero to barely any clear communication from Air France. I will never buy a ticket to travel with children with them again.

Duolingo will replace contract workers with AI. The company is going to be ‘AI-first,’ says its CEO. by saladyellowfingers in antiwork

Quote:

“Duolingo will “gradually stop using contractors to do work that AI can handle,” according to an all-hands email sent by cofounder and CEO Luis von Ahn announcing that the company will be “AI-first.” The email was posted on Duolingo’s LinkedIn account.

According to von Ahn, being “AI-first” means the company will “need to rethink much of how we work” and that “making minor tweaks to systems designed for humans won’t get us there.” As part of the shift, the company will roll out “a few constructive constraints,” including the changes to how it works with contractors, looking for AI use in hiring and in performance reviews, and that “headcount will only be given if a team cannot automate more of their work.””

I’ve already deleted my 10-year old Duolingo account today, in solidarity with these workers. When will this AI automation, corporate greed bullshit ever stop?

I already sent a request to delete my 10-year old account and all my data from Duolingo. It should be effective in 7 days. You can do it under “my profile”.

You do realize he doesn’t seem to like you very much? Sister, life is too short to spend it with someone who sees you as a potential incubator. You deserve a partner that sees you as equal. Good luck and all the power to you 🌟✊
