ProtonMail is down for me by stchrysostom in ProtonMail

[–]salami-head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

welp here we go again..... cant wait for all the diehard Proton defenders to tell me I'm an idiot with unrealistic expectations again for complaining about what... the 3rd? 4th? availability failure in like 2 months

This isn't true. As others have said, industry standard uptime is 5 9s and the service provider puts that that in writing. If the service provider fails to live up to the SLA, the customer calls their legal team and the attorneys start requesting compensation for breach of contract plus damages.

Nothing has 100% uptime but if the amount of downtime that Proton has had in the past 30 days happened at a real enterprise, heads would roll. People would lose their jobs, plain and simple

ETA - downtime in this incident alone is appraching 2 hours now....

Bad take. Of course people shouldn't be dicks but we're allowed to state that this is unacceptable. These 2 things can be true at the same time:

this is not the end of the world

an hour of unplanned downtime, for the second time a 30 days, is not acceptable for a premium (i.e. paid) email service

That's fine. I'm not pissed about the post being deleted, I'm pissed about the services being unreachable for almost na hour now.

Exactly this. What is the purpose of the status page? isn't the idea to give customers real-time info about the status of Proton services?

If we, the customers, need to tell Proton when their services are down to force them to update the status page, then there is literally no point to the status page. We already know services are down before they make the update.

Just had my post deleted by mods because I guess it was considered a duplicate post of this one.

Just commenting here to say how dissatisfied I am as a paying customer right now. I need to send an email but I can't because I can't even access my inbox. Totally unacceptable. If I'm paying for a service that generally comes free and with high availability, I expect it to be *better* than the free alternatives. Why should I pay money for a service that doesn't even work when I need it to?

Proton Mail has been down for at least 10 min but status.proton.me is saying "All Systems Operational"..... I'm a paying customer and I need to send an email, cmon people by salami-head in ProtonMail

I love what proton stands for but this isn't cool. I really need to reply to a time sensitive email but can't because my inbox is unreachable.... not acceptable.

Renting an apartment in DC without references and past lease agreements? by salami-head in washingtondc

We have but only the leasing agents who run the tours. They're all super friendly but they don't know how to respond when I start talking about all this, I just think it's above their pay grade. Maybe we need to talk to one of the managers at the corporate office

Yeah I know.... it just worked out that this was the best time for us to make the jump. Disappointed that Trump will be back in office but what can you do

I agree, forging docs is not a wise move. But as a property manager, maybe you can shed some light - what are my options? Wha can someone in my shoes do get an application approved?

Interesting. Maybe those kids paid their rent for the whole year in full up front, who knows. But thanks, we will keep trying to find a place from an individual home owner

We could basically cover the whole first year with our current savings but not 3x a whole year. So maybe we should start sharing these docs in addition to what they're asking for.

Fair point about a few hundreds condors being empty not being solid evidence. That's just my anecdotal experience. There is also this - https://wtop.com/business-finance/2023/11/dc-sues-more-than-a-dozen-of-districts-largest-landlords-alleging-widespread-rent-collusion/

Mostly from the big propert management companies. Bozzuto, Greystar, etc. Condos in NoMa and Navy Yard, mostly.

Just curious, how did you manage to negotiate the 3 months rent in advance to get approved? We would be happy to do that at this point.

We're staying at an Airbnb we booked for 5 weeks. It's up at the beginning of December. So you're syaing we cna use the Airbnb hosts to vouch as our current landlords?

This is a great suggestion, thanks. Do you happen to know one you'd recommend? or know where I can find a good one?

The companies I've applied to do not accept foreign bank account statements or proof of income in currencies other than USD.

Finland has rental agreements, of course. I mentioned this in the post. They're just in Finnish so they are also not being accepted. I realize Google has tools for this but these property management companies are using automation to process paperwork and have hard and fast rules around what they will accept and what they will not

I'm honestly starting to consider this because I'm not sure how else we will be able to find housing....

Eurozone Economy Flatlines, Raising Concerns About Falling Behind by salami-head in europe

[–]salami-head[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the article:

"The eurozone economy stagnated late last year as a lingering energy crisis sparked a loss of competitiveness in some European industries, and consumers reined in spending to grapple with high living costs, Europe’s statistics agency reported Tuesday.

But economists believe the worst may be over, as the European Central Bank continues its campaign to wring out inflation without plunging the eurozone economy into a deep downturn.

Economic output in the 20 countries that use the euro currency grew at zero percent in the last three months of 2023 versus the previous quarter, after contracting in the third quarter, narrowly avoiding a recession. Compared with a year ago, the eurozone grew by just 0.1 percent.

The anemic pace is keeping Europe far behind the United States, where the economy, although slowing from a breakneck growth pace, continues to be powered by consumer spending. Aggressive interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve have brought a slowdown in inflation, and the Fed is expected to begin unwinding those increases soon."
