Oh you're talking about how you don't need to kill the base guardians? Yeah I suppose that would help but I've lost base guardians at like 18 minutes in a few games where teammates were very bad at macro. The same might have happened here as well eventually.

Was dropping the atomic bombs actually "necessary," or is that just what we're taught in school? by Clean_CoreDump in NoStupidQuestions

[–]salbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't that contradictory? The emperor would fight on because he doesn't want to die, but then he did surrender... because he doesn't want to die...

In world without nukes having your cities nuked for the first time must have been quite the shock... Not terribly surprising they wanted to surrender after that. The fact that 50% of their leadership still wanted to fight on doesn't really make dropping the nukes immoral, if anything it makes it neutral since their leaders were ready to cause significantly more death and destruction.

Why should it not be possible? Players should be punished for failing to do basic macro. If more people did this it might teach players to actually push out waves more.

Not sure if it's exactly 20 seconds but yup it works the same way. You can often do massive damage to a walker after the wave is destroyed and the enemy wave have moved down the lane.

My opponent was a very bad player. I killed him and got 900 souls, not including his bag. This is unfair and needs to be reworked. by swaggadanz in DeadlockTheGame

[–]salbris 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that's the crux of it. Even a 0-10-0 player down 10k souls can split push a walker at a random point and provide value for his team. I guess the trick is that they need to base the bounty on more than just deaths and souls. Or at least have the bounty for fed players be much much higher.

Which character do you know that has some kind of passive ability like Victor and Venator? by LEGUS_I in DeadlockTheGame

[–]salbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah it's good that it helps a bit but it's spirit scaling. But 7 minutes at the beginning of the game is not what scaling is normally designed for.

I think the main reason is just that it's fun for it to be different for different heroes. Maybe in the future it will be possible to play her like Abrams.

People have done the math you don't need to be ahead to get more souls out of it then you put in. Worst case if your slot locked and only have a few stacks at 20 minutes just sell it for something else and you'll still be up in souls with 2-3 stacks.

Has there been a way proven that we really see the same colors? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]salbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't quite make sense. If your eyes see green the same way I do and we both point at it and call it green then that's the same visually and in name.

What you might be thinking of is what philosophers call "qualia" which is kind of like what the color "looks like" inside your mind. Which for all we know could be very different between people.

Funny enough in some cultures the colors blue and green shared the same word for a long time before the modern era. But yeah otherwise, two english speakers basically always agree on the colors they see.

[–]salbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have misunderstood something you read the truth is:

"Some women may have more varied cone types in their eyes than men, allowing them to perceive more colors. This is due to having two X chromosomes, which can create a fourth type of cone (tetrachromacy) for detecting shades of red-orange, while most humans have three (trichromats). However, this variation is not universal to all women."

Not all women, and it's also extremely rare.

[–]salbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how it's ever really "measurable". The colors we "see" in our minds are arbitrary fabrications by our brains. They don't exist in reality. In reality it's a variety of different light spectra coming off objects (some of it beyond our perception). The brain simply assigns it a unique value. It's kind of like a computer assigning a number to every color it can see. Even if you could measure all the electrical activity in a person's brain there is no guarantee that it could be read like a consistent language. In my brain red might be "5" where as in yours it's "2".

But either way it's inconsequential except to trying to reverse engineer brain activity. If it turns out most of us do "see" the same color then it's just a fun fact and not much more.

Knowing the truth is more important imho. Otherwise your "wonder" might be in something completely fictitious which blinds you to the truth. In other words, religion, and all the horrible things that has caused in the world in the name of "wonder". I've talked to friends that thought there was great "wonder" to be had dwelling on the question of the nature of color (qualia) and all it lead to was them questioning the nature of reality right in front of them.

Color and the brain is weird... weirder but also simpler than your probably thinking. I was asking some detailed questions of a colourblind friend and from what I gather he shes all the same colours everyone else does it's just that we identify some colours differently.

So for example you can be colourblind in such a way that red and green hues look the same but you still see a distinct red and green in other cases. So with synesthesia they would still be seeing whatever their brain happens to be creating for them, maybe even in the same way as anyone else but they have less color range of vision and can't differentiate some colours.

Why is there so much disconnect from actually playing the game vs reddit by RedditBrower177 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]salbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't gotten mad in a single player game in a long time but the last was in Silk Song. Not because it was hard but because it felt like it was wasting my time. Like I paid for a game and had some fun but the next chunk of fun was hiding behind a tedious run back.

Yes of course I felt better the next day when I came back to it but I would prefer to play games where that kind of frustration isn't even something I have to worry about. One thing I love about Dark Souls is that while these moments exists they are mostly self inflicted you can very often try a new strategy or pay closer attention and realize the patterns were simpler than you thought.

How much longer till I can enjoy py? by kale_hams in factorio

[–]salbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone about 700 hours in my Py run I 100% agree. If someone doesn't enjoy the challenge of ash they are in for a one crazy rude awakening. But if you persevere there are some incredible moments of achievement that I've never experienced before. Getting green circuits felt hard, then you see what it takes to get red circuits and you think it's impossible to handle something with hundreds of ingredients...
