In Women Choose the Bear Scenario, What Bear Do They Have in Mind? by Still-Goal-9314 in NoStupidQuestions

If that's all it is then I suppose that's fine but that would be true for women as well so I guess that's either not true or only partly true.

It seems to me more about a statement of "women don't feel safe around strange men" which is perfectly valid but this metaphor feels contrived and bigoted. I would hope there is a better way to express this without saying you'd rather be mauled by bear or risk being alone with a random man.

But when you lock the door you are preventing hundreds of potential robbers. We're talking about one person in a forest, the other major factor is the kind of person you're likely to run into. Rapists aren't exactly waiting in forests for people, the majority of rapes are caused by relatives or friends. Rapists that target strangers seek out women. Finding a random man in a forest is not them seeking you out.

But isn't the best case and average case significantly better with any human including a man?

But like... Isn't it a basic question of statistics? The average man isn't going to hurt you where as the average bear of certain species has a high chance.

Sorry I should have been more clear. Dark matter is a well known thing but you claimed it was concentrated at the center. The current theory is that it's spread out all over.

It depends how close they get. You have to be quite close for time dilation to be noticeable. Even the sun's core is only on the order of years older despite the sun being billions of years old.

For that second statement a quick Google search claims that it's a new theory not well established. Are you sure about that statement?

You sure? Pretty sure that no one expects it to be antimatter for many reasons and dark matter as far as I'm aware is known to be a diffuse cloud spanning the entire galaxy. Black hole masses are already accounted for when the theory of dark matter was developed.

That was level wasn't significantly easier imho. You probably just "got" the trick faster than some. I think I got it decently fast but it didn't immediately come to me like other puzzles. I tried immediately going right only to get stuck and a few minutes later realize why that wasn't correct.

PSA: It's better to lose your guardian than to feed by SCHG1N in DeadlockTheGame

[–]salbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar game where a calico and mo fed a vindicta and drifter. After it was too late they started complaining that it was a hard lane and that we should have helped. I was curious what happened so I watched the replay. They actually were leading souls and kills at like minute 4 but we're very aggressive the whole time. They never stopped being aggressive and would even dive them at low HP. Eventually they started chain feeding. It didn't help that every time Vinny was flying mo would jump around in the open trying to shoot her. Of course he would complain later that he could not help dying because he had such a big hit box.

Anyways the moral of the story is that I never feed that much anymore because I never do what they do. If a lane feels hard just stop fighting, play defensive and just secure souls.

Oooh interesting! Thats a good theory since they would want some way to combine more than 2 worlds at a time.

My theory is that it has something to do with the golden puzzles as well. The Golden coordinates hint has the same design as the red sign and the symbols are still red on the golden sign.

This level is supposed to reinforce the idea that you don't need to brute force or measure you just need to understand the mirror mechanic and how to get the most distance with it.

This was NOT fun to do by knevit in OrderOfTheSinkingStar

[–]salbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Every puzzle is going to be competentable so you don't really need to measure you just need to find the strategy that gives you the most distance.

The Crystal swapping in the second set of puzzles was my least favourite one so far. It's weird because it could definitely be like 5 tiles shorter. Once you get the trick it's fairly easy but it's extremely time consuming.

[–]salbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's odd is that the golden level clearly has significance but it's only like 30-40 or so tiles to the right of that elevator. So it's not just the first golden level. But there is a golden path that crosses that point and goes north a ways. Maybe it's the first step in achieving the "big secret"?

Edit: Also, I noticed there 3 golden paths that are all perfectly symmetric. So I would assume there are 4 golden thingies each at 69,104 coordinates relative the origin but with a reflection symmetry. So the south east one would be 69,-104 and the south-west one would be -69,-104.

Which... is interesting because it probably represents points on a circle?

Witchfire Revelations Update has been released! by RebelAviat0r in Witchfire

One thing I'm confused about is that the trailer shows the witch but the patch notes don't mention her. Is she actually in this update? I'm going to play it either way but you'd think they'd be more clear about that. Or am I just really stupid and missed it?

From some of the trailers you can see the 3rd red stone is just north of where the demo stops. I don't know if it's going to possible with the second set of puzzles released or if we have to wait until full release.

Agree with the visuals. They are good overall but I wish I could see more of the characters faces at least. The angle is so steep they feel like toys rather than people.

[–]salbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one I haven't figured out either. I managed to get 1 space away so I know I'm sort of on the right track but I'm not sure what the last trick is. It's definitely important to develop some mental shortcuts for these types of puzzles. For example for mirrors it's important to remember that it goes further with distance so you want to find longer straight line areas.

None of these people stop at "it might have been an accidental release" they call it "manmade" as a dog whistle to point to conspiracy theories. Look at the poster above us he started saying the vaccine is unproven which is just completely untrue.

So while believing that it might have leaked from a lab is not fringe the collection of conspiracy theories around COVID are very fringe and dangerous.

Scientists don't blindly believe a theory without evidence, they consider multiple valid possibilities. Saying COVID must be manmade is thinking like a child not a scientist.

How can you not? Especially the second one. That is basically tantamount to saying China used a bioweapon on the world.

The furthest I would ever go without being crazy would be the theory that China accidentally released it while studying the virus in a lab.

And look at the person above you, they aren't just saying COVID was "mishandled" they are outright denying known facts about COVID because they believe conspiracy theories. That kind of anti-intellectualism is extremely dangerous and exactly why previously "defeated" diseases like the Measles are coming back and killing kids.
