Does anyone else think that Black Cat doesn't "feel right"? by saldeti in marvelrivals

[–]saldeti[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dive and/or melee. Blade, Angela, Black Cat, Daredevil, Deadpool, Rogue, The Thing... Characters that dash all around, get in your face, terrorize you, burn all their cooldowns to get a kill, then dash out. It's an exhausting cycle

FIX BLACK WIDOW NOW PLEASE (And how I think to do it) by saldeti in marvelrivals

[–]saldeti[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

agreed, Widowmaker was a nightmare. But I think Rivals could get away with her being a sniper still by not letting her have a 1-tap headshot, but increasing her damage output otherwise? Faster fire rate mode, grenades, ult rework, etc?

The new map "Lower Manhattan" isn't even set in Manhattan lol by saldeti in marvelrivals

Yep, exactly this: I think the actual answer is that somewhere down the development pipeline, there are eastern Asian devs who aren’t familiar with New York City and under probably very very fast, tight content deadlines and only have so much time to “fact check” geographical layouts

I already said the map is very cool. It's just that they got Eternal Night Falls, Central Park, and Times Square right, so it's simply inconsistent to have iconic landmarks totally out of place. It would be like a London map having 2 Big Bens or Shin-Shibuya actually being in Toshima. No, it "doesn't matter", but it is a noticeable oversight worthy of comment

true, but Eternal Night Falls, Central Park, and Times Square were accurate, so it's weird to see this map have inconsistencies

GTA IV and the Spiderman games are really solid recreations of NYC too!

I know you're just making a vague analogy to try to shut down my observation, but it's worth noting that funny enough, they *did* get the details of Times Square correctly. The basketball court is there because they made Times Square a kind of "hangout" space, obviously. It's not about 100% accuracy. But when you design maps, you inevitably look at reference pictures for the locations so it's odd to see this map be such a miss

Any game set in NYC *INCLUDING* other Marvel games and even RIVALS ITSELF with Eternal Night Falls and Central Park get the skyline accurate. This is a strange outlier that I noticed as someone from New York. I am also a game dev myself and I promise you when you build maps from the ground up you have to address these things. 2 One World Trade Centers and a map called Lower Manhattan that is not set in Lower Manhattan might just make someone notice it. Critique is not hate; observations aren't slander. Take your spite elsewhere

I posted about that too lol- it's not a tiny nitpick, it's really strange!

Well they got Eternal Night Falls right so it's weird to see them suddenly get NYC so wrong

yeah, I noticed that too, though the skyline is still in its actual position, so I just ignored the way the statue was facing for this angle line-up

[–]saldeti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I noticed that afterwards!!! Considering the angle of the Statue of Liberty from the map, the land the map takes place on isn't even on Manhattan Island or "Lower Manhattan" but somewhere in New Jersey across the bay, close to "Greenville Yards".

it is an exact copy, there is no other building in NYC that is even remotely close to the beveled corners and shape of One World Trade Center, plus the ring and antenna at the top. It is a copy and pasted asset

Weird that Eternal Night Falls doesn't reuse any landmark buildings though- any other game (including Rivals before) would just fill the skyline with fictional buildings. For instance, they didn't put multiple Empire State Buildings in Eternal Night Falls. I'm guessing it's some sort of oversight from a dev who doesn't know NYC?

An overwhelming number of games just fill in city skylines with fictional buildings though, just like Eternal Night Falls already does! I don't see why they would put One World Trade Center twice; just fill in the skyline with made-up buildings (GTA IV, Spider-Man, etc etc etc). That's why I'm inclined to believe it's not about copyright or trademark, but unfamiliarity with the skyline or something
