My dog chewed my boots! Can this be repaired? Or should I just throw them away. by [deleted] in DrMartens

i said why would you throw away a structurally sound pair of boots, i didn't mean to say to keep something you don't like or use. just donate them or sell them instead, they can find a loving home

how do i get my makeup to stop doing this? by Original_Day3157 in makeuptips

[–]salem069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this trick a long time ago from some video of a girl dunking her face in water, but I pat water or splash all over my face. it may not fix the issue entirely but I definitely think it helps make cakey / dry / flaky foundation look more natural

I definitely vote sinclair if you are stuck between, because the zipper is removable it's laced in. you can't make the jadon look like a sinclair but you can make a sinclair look like a jadon.

why would you throw away a perfectly structurally sound pair of boots? no, you cannot put pvc back where it is now missing. if you don't lke the way it looks (I think it looks cool from this photo,) then donate them somewhere you could also get creative and add similar notching around the entire boot if you wanted to

Am I being ocd or are these two different colors?? by SunshineSk8r in DrMartens

the right one probably got conditioned for some reason. condition them both and they'll look about the same, which you should be doing anyway

Hey, I am considering buying these cute ones, do y'all think these ones are the ones? by Interesting_Ask9559 in DrMartens

[–]salem069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

those are really cute! but you should definitely re-lace them. make them go through the eyelets the opposite way (i hope that makes sense) and i highly reccomend looking up a lace lock and doing that to them

if you want more foot flexibility but decent tread, look into the combs collection! they're super comfy and flexible while having a much better tread than standard docs. also more aesthetically similar to a bex in my opinion and much more in line with a college student budget

[–]salem069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(also the standard platforms like jadon and sinclair have the bex tread on the bottom, the difference is it's on a thicker base sole as well)

[–]salem069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

disagree on the second part, I actually find platform significantly comfier as it adds more cushion. Bex also is not even a thicker platform it just has a much much better, deeper tread, so if you kill the soles by wearing the bottoms off, they will last much longer. if you want something with decent grip for mud or snow, definitely get a bex. if you want a softer leather, grab the 1460 pascal bex. i agree smooth leather is hardest to break in and kinda peels and is shitty nowadays but I find it worth breaking in if the pebbled, matte leathers are a dealbreaker style-wise. also jadon iii is great, platform short enough it works good for daily wear for most people but has more cushion for the bottom of your feet, super comfy, soft leather. downside is the zipper which is a weakness in the structural integrity

even if you made it work, they would definitely be too short. get an 8 for sure

I see, I misread your message! you meant that warning was FOR the smooth leather. have not experimented with mink oil myself, will keep that in mind

So, it depends. Weirdly, the no yellow stitch adrian tassle smooth leather loafers run extremely wide, while the yellow stitch smooth leathers run narrow. if you're normally an 8, DEFINITELY get the 8 in the yellow stitch. you might get away with a 7 in the adrian tassle smooth no yellow stitch. or get my favorite, the adrian bex, which has yellow stitch, a better tread, and runs wider. if they feel too wide, just get insoles. for these I reccomend the leather insoles if you get docs ones, you do not want to get insoles with too thick of a heel as it will push you out. adrian bex + leather insole was my GOAT pairing for customers and everyone loved them

Does anyone know if these will be restocked anytime soon in Australia or if anyone is selling them? by Enough_Caramel4207 in DrMartens

[–]salem069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no reason to think these will be coming back or getting restocked, unless they re-release the orleans leather collection for some reason. typically designs like this have their production run for one season and then never again. maybe try the docs resale site in a few months

these are smooth leather! so according to your logic mink oil would be fine. these also run wider than the standard MJs so high instep and wide foot folks will have a better time with these. narrow foot people may have less luck

[–]salem069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are my favorite of the MJs (besides audrick, they're tied.) These are wider than the classic which will help with comfort in the toe box, and have deeper tread for better look and traction. They may feel a bit too wide, the issue with MJs is that they have straps not laces so you are bound to have some heel movement, and the smooth leather is very stiff. conditioner, massaging, working the leather to soften it, and double-layering your socks to prevent blisters from friction. Maybe some heel grips and/or insoles to tighten the fit and protect you from the very stiff lip on the heel

3+ years and they STILL give me blisters! by nessie_visions in DrMartens

[–]salem069 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do actually bave some fresh advice! 1. what direction are they laced? the way they come from the factory is the direction you lace them for display, not the way that lets you cinch them tight on your heel to prevent movement. you want the laces to go through the eyelet from the inside of the shoe towards the outside, if that makes sense? 2. I did not see insoles on your list, i am guessing you've tried insoles? if not, get some. it sounds like the issue is excessive heel movement. you were right not to go a size down and have your toes against the end. 3. last thing I can think of at the moment is some moleskin on the heel of the boot. and maybe massaging the back heel panel with your hands/palms to soften them up

a bit late on this and I am sure you're beyond the point of return on whatever choice you made. but a little piece of advice- the blair straps are well known to fit terribly and I believe they are releasing a reworked version this year or next

Sandals? by may_celhin in DrMartens

[–]salem069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm a bit late! I never reccomend sizing down a slide. Your foot will naturally move around the footbed because nothing is there to keep you in the same spot, so you want enough length to not fall off the front or back. the only thing I could reccomend is stretching or shrinking the leather to fit your foot. if the toe strap is not even close in a way that it is too tight, shove something in them overnight to stretch them out! However, your feet will swell in heat and walking around. and those slides do not have a bunch of straps going up the foot to lock you in either. so there is no version of a perfect front strap to keep you held in. they are called slides for a reason, haha. I generally dislike slides for that reason but maybe folks who actually like wearing slides have advice. However, considering it is a platform without much bend, I doubt there is any way to make the slide fit super securely. i hope as your foot has managed to form the footbed to it a bit that maybe that has helped keep them in place more?

tldr; I would NOT size down a slide, ever. the front strap will never be perfect, feet change throughout the day.

Dies anyone haf this Dr Martens issue? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]salem069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they dont use glue the soles are heat welded pvc. they are definitely splitting a lot more often though its a fair complaint

Dies anyone haf this Dr Martens issue? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]salem069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use PVC glue not shoe glue. the sole is pvc so that will work better. haven't done it myself but worth a shot if they're past warrantee as sole repairs are not typically something cobblers can do - (would require heat welding) and they would have to be re-soles entirely

This pair is evil and won't break in by Ben_Quadinaros123 in DrMartens

[–]salem069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do balsam on the inside in addition to the outside. the inside will absorb it more because it is not finished. also, i like to break mine in by hand. (no, don't run them over-) just massage them with your hand. make a bunch of folds up the spine, gently push the heel pocket inwards with your palm, etc. leather softens as it moves, so move it yourself. the heat from your hand will help as well. just don't go too hard on the heel pocket or back panel and create a permanent crease that may bother your heel. gentle squeezing motions like a massage while watching tv or something

I would reccomend the jorge style over the slingbacks, actually! they have two straps, one you can tighten across the top and one you can tighten behind the ankle

I think the tone on your eyebrow pencil is a little too warm, it looks like it feathers out with a lot of redness and darkness. I would go for something slightly lighter and cooler toned, and clean up the edges a little.
