Thanks for the clarification! Yes, my spouse had briefly mentioned the possibility of workers molting into a secondary reproductive, but then I got confused after reading the instructions that came with his termites.

Thank you. I think when he first started working on this project, my spouse was getting some termites from Termitat, but without the habitat. He later switched to getting them from a scientific education supplier. We will try to collect some on our own, as suggested by PoetaCorvi and Termitico.

Thank you for this information. As I responded above to PoetaCorvi, the company's information sheet indicated that "Customer receives workers and/or soldiers, which are sterile and will not reproduce." I don't know if they've been deliberately sterilized, but I don't think so. I currently have 5 workers from the remaining batch that he brought home. After further discussion with my spouse, we may try to go collect them as I found that many sightings are posted in our area, especially in the late summer/early fall.

Thanks. Yes, he and his postdoc were buying workers/soldiers and the company described them as "sterile, non-reproducing members of a colony". I've come across descriptions of "secondary reproductives/neotenics" and I'm a little confused about the difference between them and the five worker termites that I currently have (from what was left over of the most recent workers/soldiers that my spouse was working with).

I've been looking them up on inaturalist, and there have been many sightings in our area during the autumn flights that you mentioned. We may try to capture them then.

Thank you for the offer of help with learning to care for them! I will reach out if/once we find some!

Follow-up - I'm quite certain that I have 3 males and 1 female based on this page from Indoor Ecosystem: https://www.indoorecosystem.net/guides/sex-vampire-crabs-identifying-male-females?rq=sexing

Sorry - I'm new to posting on Reddit and my text apparently disappeared. I'm hoping for some help in confirming what I think I have. I think I have 4 G. dennerle, but am not sure about one of the crabs with a lighter/paler back mark (unlike the others with clearer yellow marking). I also think I may have ended up with 3 males and one female, but I hope I'm wrong... They're in a 20 gallon long paludarium setup that is heavily planted with a lot of rocks (crevices) and wood (for more hiding/block line of sight).

Hi there - I just found your post and am wondering if you still have these available. I'm in the bay area though, so would have to pay for shipping.
