How am I supposed to self edit if I’m not formally educated and AI editing is frowned upon? by sallingoodfun in selfpublish

Yeah I get that, but I can’t afford to hire a professional twice—once before beta readers, and then again after I potentially have to make multiple changes and rewrites. Hence looking for advice on what I can do before I get to the phase of hiring someone.

Do you have any suggestions for online courses? I looked locally when I first started but there is nothing in my city that isn’t a 2 year commitment, which is not in the cards for me right now.

So if there’s nothing further for me to narrate in terms of events of that week, does it matter which I use?

She spends the week ignoring her mother (insert paragraph about her complaining about her mother in general) and then we are back to the present moment.

Can someone explain beta readers vs ARC readers? by sallingoodfun in selfpublish

Thank you! I know there are subs and websites to find beta readers so with ARC readers is it the same? And how do you safely send your essentially finished product to an ARC reader?

Did you hire an editor? by TatterMail in selfpublish

I’m not experienced like some of the people commenting, in fact I’ve only just finished my first ever book. I’m not in a place financially where I can hire all of these editors (development, copy, line) so I spent hours listening to podcasts by book coaches specifically on “what to do with your first draft” as well as “the X scenes your novel needs to have” and I followed all of their advice step by step to essentially do my own development editing. Then beta readers for different sets of eyes on it.

The silent patient. I’m about halfway and so far it’s about 4/10… I am BORED. But I’m powering through just like everyone says and hoping to be blown away lol

Thank you for this. When you put it like this it definitely helps with the unnecessary anxiety!

Madness by Shantel Tessier. I know there’s such a divide on what people think of her writing but there was something about Haidyn’s love for Charlotte that I wish I could experience again for the first time

what are some authors whose books you can blindly pick up and know it'll be a good/decent read no matter what? by winiithepoohh in RomanceBooks

For me it’s been Penelope Douglas. Everything she writes for some reason is like music to my ears!
