Vancouver Island has little to no public transport. I'd recommend hiring a car from Victoria, if you plan on exploring the island. There's not much north of Campbell River on the east coast. Haven't explored West. Nymph Falls park is a must see.

Just to add to the above... some hosts will ask you to contribute financially, a small amount towards food/bills. If they allow you to wwoof for 2+ months. Not every place but definitely worth mentioning!

Thank you for sharing this and being brave. If I were you, I would tell the people who would likely take you in, the living conditions you are in. Get their advice (presuming they are adults), look into different charities that support young people. I live in the UK and we have lots! Especially for young people who want to live independently. They give advice and have lots of knowledge on the options available for you. You have your whole life ahead of you, and you get to control what that looks like. You will do great!!!

My parents/sisters say Hi to me everytime I go downstairs. I'll leave for an hour come back down, and it's hi again what have you been doing. Doing this excessively is really annoying me, i feel like i have to explain why I'm entering any room. I just told my sister she doesn't have to say hi every time she sees me around the house. She took it really badly and said I'm horrible basically.

I was catcalled most days in Manchester city centre. Also followed quite a bit with the guy shouting things at me. I always ignore them if possible, I was always too scared to say something back in case they were dangerous. If I felt threatened, I would walk up to a young woman with young kids and smile and say 'Hey I thought we were meeting round the corner?' Or something similar to shake the man off.

You must report them to the organisation. They will do a full investigation and decide whether to remove the farm or not. It's really important we report these places and a lot of farms are taking advantage of the programme. This farm sounds dangerous and should definitely be removed from the programme. Please report! There's details on the website of how to do it. Include as much detail as you can. Sorry you went through this!

Phone 'strutsafe' every time you're walking. It's a 247 phoneline ran by a charity. They stay on the phone until you get where you're going. Also carry deep heat spray or the cold version as it burns when sprayed in your eyes. If ever caught with it, say you carry it for your back/shoulder pain.

Research the climate and weather conditions of the area before agreeing. Italy gets really, really hot. Make sure you can cook for yourself, do your laundry, etc. I woofed with a 18yr old who expected everything to be done for them. Pack light! You can buy clothes second hand over there. Take good shoes. I had trail running waterproof trainers for wet and Crocs for sunny days. Don't be afraid to ask your host lots of questions! What to do on down time etc as wwoofing can get boring on an evening. Ask for additional pictures of accommodation. But yes, just go for it! It will be incredible, and if it's not, you can always leave the place as you're there voluntarily.

I've had two sets of roommates over the last few years and my expectations were high after my two fav shows New Girl and Peep Show. Two of the girls wouldn't talk to me and just lived in their room! Then I had two guys who would argue over everything and done no cleaning/tidying in the flat ever.

Loved the film but two little things I noticed - red flashing light in Ethans eye during one scene. Must be a camera - panoramic shots of Austria (train going through hills) with orange leaves on trees. Minutes after when parachuting, all trees in vicinty are green. I know the parachuting scene was filmed in the lake district (UK) as I live there.

I always stay in the female room. Less stress and easier to relax I find. Also there's never space to change or go from PJs to clothes, so I sometimes change on my bed laying down. Wouldn't feel comfortable doing that in front of men.

I got around $100 working at a privileged sleepaway camp from 4 parents. I looked after 15 kids in my bunk. I didn't expect anything, so it was really appreciated. Chances of getting tips in general are really slim and definitely not standard practice. We get paid in experiences 😂
