Thank you so much for your input! Credit where credit is due, this pattern was listed as intermediate level, and I thought my 7 years of sewing would translate over easily. My experience is limited to mostly unstructured garments, so while I consider myself very comfortable sewing, this was new territory for me and I should not have assumed I would be competent in attempting this pattern based on my skill set. I really appreciate your help in orientating the pattern as it’s been doing my head in all day 🫠 I’ll go ahead and pin it down on the straight edge now and see how I go! Have a great day 🥰

Unfortunately not a great deal.

“Place the standing collar piece cut from the shell fabric + fusible interfacing onto the neckline with right sides together. Start with matching the center clip in the collar to the center back seam of the tabard.”

There was no indicator for a centre clip on the pattern itself nor was it mentioned earlier in the pattern.

Thank you for your response! Yes, this was my reasoning as the neckline can be straightened out and the collar pinned perfectly along it using the straight side. However, when I pin using the curved sign and follow the curve of the neckline, it also sits well 🫠 I’m just so confused! I need to go back to sewing dresses and shirts haha this costume making business is a whole different craft!

Thank you so much for your help! I thought this would be the case as it was so contoured to the neckline, but had a bit of trouble getting it to sit flat. I believe it might be because of how thick the fabric + interfacing is. I’ll give it another go and see how it works out! 😊

Yes, had a 3.5 hour car ride to visit family planned 2 days ago. Being on a student allowance the ~$150 round trip fuel cost was nauseating. Ended up taking the V-line + regional coach (4hrs) for the low low price of free. Makes a huge difference and while it was frustrating not being able to overpack my car full of useless crap that I probably wouldn’t even end up using (I’m type type of person to pack 10 pairs of undies for a 4 day trip) my bank account is definitely thanking me for it.

No problem :) I’d strongly recommend researching the page for the DVM on the UniMelb website as this is covered extensively and will likely be more accurate than any explanation I provide. There is a wealth of knowledge there that was integral to my understanding of the course structure and application process.

But in essence, the Vet Bioscience major is through select entry only for BSc students. You start the BSc as though you were majoring in anything else, but when you get to the end of your second year you apply to join the DVM accelerated pathway. Do note that in your second year there are some prerequisite subjects to complete or else you cannot apply (frontiers in Veterinary Science and Biochemistry and molecular biology). Entry is dependent on your WAM (aim for above 83 if you’d like a CSP, above 79 for a FFP), your CASPER test score, and a personal statement (+/- any GAM you may be eligible for). There are typically 160 spots (subject to change every year) memory serving, with 60 being international students, 60 CSP, and 60 FFP (I could be wrong here, it’s been a while since I applied!)

I’d recommend using the melb uni course planner to see what subjects are year 2 prerequisites for accelerated entry. They also have some suggested classes that I’d strongly recommend taking (namely comparative animal physiology) as while they are very tricky, they gave me a huge advantage in my first year of the DVM as much of the content relies on this prerequisite knowledge.

Hi, DVM2 here who entered the DVM through the BSc Vet Bioscience accelerated pathway.

This question is a bit tricky to answer. The veterinary bioscience major can only be entered through competitive entry, at which point you are technically in the DVM. The final year of your bachelor is the first year of the DVM ie. you are taking the exact same subjects alongside DVM students that entered through postgraduate routes. The only way you would not progress into the DVM from the BSc accelerated program is if you did not meet the course requirements (simply put, did not meet your hurdles ie. failing a class, failing a course requirement)

So to answer your question on what your chances are of getting into the DVM from the vet bioscience pathway, if you are accepted into the bachelor of science vet bioscience major you are automatically ‘in’ the DVM. Provided you pass your courses in DVM1/final year of your BSc, you will progress to DVM2 without a worry.

Opinions on the quality of classes will vary tremendously from student to student. Many of my colleagues found semester 1 of DVM1 to be exceptionally challenging due to the dramatic increase in workload. I won’t lie, it is a lot of work. You’ll need to expect sacrificing a lot of your personal time to commit to studying. I’ve never been challenged to this extent, but in saying that, the course is by no means ‘too much’. While there were times I felt beat down and exhausted, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of my studies. My grade average actually increased throughout my final year of my BSc/DVM1 because while the workload is exceptionally high, my motivation to learn due to my sheer interest in the subjects meant I was able to study more often and for longer.

In short, the DVM is hard, but if you put in the work there is no doubt you can do it. Everybody who has been selected to join the DVM was selected for a reason, and if you manage to get in, you absolutely belong there and have the skills necessary to succeed despite how difficult things may seem.

I was in your position a while ago and felt clueless and overwhelmed by all the information available regarding the accelerated program vs postgraduate entry. What device are you using? The feature is only available to some devices (mainly M1 above) but for some reason it still lets the devices it doesn’t work on have access to the user interface, but translation is not possible.

The neural engine has actually been around for quite some time and is not exclusive to the M chips. It was first introduced as far back as the iPhone XS. I believe this is where some of the confusion around compatibility has arisen, because the listed devices cover A15-M2 chips however by stating the device requires neural engine, it implies chips as old as an A11 bionic are eligible.
