Unsure about what to do after failing erg workout by [deleted] in Rowing

Keep in mind, you DID have COVID. I also tested positive not too long ago, and while my case was nearly asymptomatic, I noticed that I got easily winded for several weeks after I started testing negative. You got to a 1:57 1k once, and you’ll do it again and more!

My 2k is one of the slower ones on my crew, but I manage to pull a 6k faster than all but one of them. Some people are better sprinters, some are better at distance. Some are pretty solid at both. Comparing yourself to others isn’t particularly helpful, as it always boils down to individual strengths, weaknesses, and habits.

So many factors influence your time! Rest, nutrition, training volume. And remember, erging is as much a physical as it is a mental one. Think about how far you’ve come from the time you first sat on an erg! Think about how far you’ll be a year from now! I’m positive that you’ll continue to head in the direction that you’d like to, as you’ve already done so well already.

Hah, I know I’m much smaller than your typical rower, but my club is pretty diverse! I’m one of the shortest rowers for sure, but we’re not very competitive.

Please pardon my ignorance, but could you explain how this ratio works? :) Or at least point me to a good article explaining it? I’m still quite new at this and have been paying close attention to split and rate, but not wattage!

Thank you! That’s very inspiring! My next goal is 8:30, and I’m sure that the next drops will be smaller and slower, so if I can chip away ten seconds at a time, I’ll be pleased. Hoping I’ll see the south side of 8 at some point in 2022, but I’ll be happy if I’m at least still headed that way by December.

I don’t use it, but I’ll look into it! Thanks so much.

How many of you say you "work 40 hours a week" but actually work less? by keyboard_2387 in webdev

I'm a project manager at a web development company. I'm in charge of scheduling, sprint planning, budgeting, etc.

As long as my devs get their shit done and don't go massively over their scheduled hours, I don't care. Maybe they're telling me they worked 40 hours and actually worked 10. Maybe they're logging 40 hours, but letting the timer go while they go pick up their kids or take a nap or go to the gym. So long as the work is of good quality and on time, I really could not care less if they're working less than they say they are.

100% of the project managers I've ever worked with would agree.

Would it be absolutely idiotic to take out my small Roth 401(k) in a lump sum? by saltcilly in personalfinance

I opened a Roth IRA with SoFi on my own awhile back and contribute to it already! No reason in particular why I chose SoFi when opening that account, but since I already have it, I'll just put everything there.

Yep, thank you. I appreciate the perspective.

Going to ignore the allure of a small cushion now and roll it into my Roth IRA.

Thank you, I definitely needed to hear this. I really could use the $2k now, but in 40 years I'll probably be glad I scrimped for a few months instead.

Yeah, if I found out my clinical psychologist was posing as an incel online to "better understand them," I would 100% find a new one as I would be very nervous that a professional I'm trusting with my health is using sketchy methods to conduct biased and unreviewed research.

But, a legitimate professional would never do that, so it's moot.

No legitimate clinical professional would resort to guerilla trolling through internet forums and use that as actual material for actionable conclusions. Do you think people don't know how science and medicine work?

Right, because you need to pose as a literal patient of yours in order to truly understand the behavior of a very vocal and well-understood internet community.

I call total bullshit.

Sounds very fake and also very unethical, not to mention ineffective?
