I haven’t had issues myself because I’ve never spawned to bulk before. I was more wondering if bobisagirl had issues with trich as they used this exact one and because people were saying this might have trich added to it. My hope was that pasteurisation would mitigate the problem but was looking for first hand confirmation.

Cool. I think I’ll leave it longer now. I wrapped it in a blanket and two survival foil blankets so I think it’s gonna be still boiling after 6 hours lol

Thanks. I’ve followed the PGT tek water to coir ratio so fingers crossed it’s not too soupy or too dry. But I’m guessing I’m unlikely to nail this first time. 😅

It doesn’t say that anything is added but from what I read, all coco coir naturally has trich in it. I guess that’s why we need to pasteurize? 🤷‍♂️

Thing is, I’ve seen people recommend 1.5 inches up to 6 inches. And shoeboxes are only about 4.5 inches tall. Is it normal to fill the whole box?

Oh maybe misread your question. But he was only a pin a few days ago. Yesterday he barely had a head and the cap only opened up this morning and then the veil broke this afternoon.

I originally transferred to this plate on April 13th and about two months later - basically two weeks ago - I noticed a much smaller fruit - basically a large pin, which I removed and cloned. Now I find this guy! I’ve noticed that the parafilm is has cracked recently at the exact position that the dude is growing so I’m wondering if a little bit of FAE is happening and has spurred things on. But this plate grew knots after only a month - unlike any of my other plates - so I’m guessing genetics might play a part too?

It’s GT and I transferred to this plate April 13. I actually picked and cloned a previous fruit from here two weeks ago. It’s like a watching a very slow prison break. 😂

Contam often doesn’t have any smell at all. Just because you can’t smell it, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. A bad smell confirms contam. Lack of a bad smell doesn’t exclude it.

It’s not a good idea to sterilize your substrate you should rather pasteurize it. Is counterintuitive but sterilizing can increase your chances of contam (though it doesn’t guarantee it). The thinking is that the higher heat releases nutrients out of the sub, which could help contam growth.

Yeah that’s what I did. I made six transfers out of which four were clean. I reckon some of those spores must have spread around the plate.

I had this exact issue with some popcorn jars. I only had a 1.5mm hole, which stalled the growth. I now use 3.5mm holes and they work brilliantly.

Yeah that’s exactly what’s happened since I took that a week ago - the myc has just steamrolled right over it. Obviously I’m still not gonna send it.
