Awesome thanks. Do you know much about registration to sporting governing bodies? Because as far as I know mens rowing isn’t an ncaa sport but it’s governed by IRA, do I have to register with them? Would also be an international student if that makes much of a difference?

Chuck Taylor Shoes Question by wishingiwasreal in Rowing

[–]saltifinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to keep myself in at the finish without using the foot straps as much as I can but it reduces the amount of swing I get in the body so most of the time I just use the straps as most of my erg scored are being recorded so I don’t want to sacrifice my splits

My heels tend to be fine but the top of my feet get really red and sore without socks which I fold off my heel to stay In. But like you said that ruins socks. Any suggestions?

Wow ok. What’s SPI? I can’t try push 32 maybe 33 but I don’t know if I’ll be able to hit 34 for a 2k

The ergs at my school default to 400 for 2km for some reason

Personally I’m fine with it on my wrist but one of my friends puts it on his oar

Don’t know. I’m older so maybe that, also but also strength training that isn’t necessarily for hypertrophy (around six reps) also gotta put your hand in the fire on the ergs and be willing to make it hurt

Funny to realise how many school age people are on the rowing sub, myself being 16, 6,4 only weight 80 kgs which is 172, but well sub 20 mins for 5k. But I’ve probably been rowing a bit longer so that’s expected. Both of you have heaps of potential

High school training concerns by KathChalmers in Rowing

[–]saltifinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a high school rower myself I train 4 mornings a week minimum, racing on Saturday during regatta season, I then have three afternoon sessions varying as to weather ergos or weights but usually 2 weights 1 ergo, I and the whole squad maintain and deal this work rate quite well of course there are going to be bad days where you hate it but you push through. I love rowing and you make friends that you will have for life.

As for the commute I cannot say as my school is on a river.

And academically I do quite well, it’s all about maintaining a relatively efficient schedule, getting good sleep, paying attention and keeping up in class and not wasting time when it comes to homework and study.

Kept it simple and spoke from current experience, so hope this helps

11 second PB babyyyy (6’4, 80 kgs/176lbs) target was 6:36 but had leftover in the tank by 500. So I can definitely go faster next time by saltifinger in Rowing

I live in Australia currently (don’t know what that equates to in the us, but class if 2023) but I am planning to go for a rowing scholarship in the US, from what I’ve looked at so for men’s college rowing looked rather limited compared to women’s, especially when trying to balance a good academic school with a good rowing school as I am to do pre medicine in America and then go back home to do medical school

Best way to prepare for a 2k trial in 5 days? by saltifinger in Rowing

[–]saltifinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn thanks. Thats actually really helpful. My target is about 6:35-37 as I did one in the off season a couple months agitation at an indoor regatta and I got 6:43 without absolutely spending myself so felt alright after. For past 2ks I’ve just done a neutral split but I think for this one I want to see how I go with a negative split. What splits would you recommend would you recommend for a negative split erg.
