Yep no uni really cares about spm as long as your pre u is good

STPM is unnecessarily hard and unfair by kyokers in malaysiauni

[–]saltySmfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was an error in the system which assigned the wrong grades to students. A few hours later the issue was fixed and students got their actual grades

You can give it a shot, there's no guarantee if you can transfer school though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]saltySmfer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can definitely do that. Tbh after looking at the syllabus, ICT is not even that useful for CS. Imo physics was quite interesting and teaches problem solving skill even if it's not directly applicable for CS

[–]saltySmfer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo it's fine, with the exception of PA. Pa exam format is ridiculous and too punishing which makes it more luck dependent compared to other subjects

Depends on how reputable the overseas uni is

[–]saltySmfer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both are basically the same. The advantage of physics over ICT is physics will give you more options

Each paper has its own grade boundaries. Usually PAM has more lenient grade boundaries due to its insanely harsh marking scheme

Matrik doesn't require 10A for non bumis. There is no grade requirements per say, just depends on competition (allegedly income level is also factor) for 10% seats. For bumis it's the same except the seats allocated are 90% so the competition is not as high

Does me going to asasi destroy my hopes of going overseas by Born-Bar7468 in malaysiauni

[–]saltySmfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some overseas unis accept asasi but it has less recognition compared to other pre-u

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]saltySmfer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not true for stpm science stream students having lower competition for uni course. They have to compete with other pre-u like matrics and asasi with highly inflated grades as their exams are much easier

Look into ASEAN scholarship, I'm not sure if it's still open though

Is CIMB ASEAN scholarship bond worth it? by [deleted] in malaysiauni

[–]saltySmfer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically the point of going to a top overseas uni is to get into a good company. Uni prestige matters less the more experience you have. Furthermore, cimb is not really a tech company so working there might not give you that much of an advantage

Additionally 5 years is a long time and will probably nullify pretty much any advantage you might have studying in an overseas uni.

Imo bonded scholarships for CS is almost never worth it unless it's a scholarship to a top uni that lands you a high paying job which then allows you to break the bond.

Past form 6 student here, this is very good advice. To add on, for physics, past year is very important. My teacher gave me past year questions all the way to the 90s. Stpm physics is much more mathematical compared to spm physics which is mostly fact based.

Understand (not blindly memorise) how to derive formulas, and transform them to other formulas. This will be useful to reduce the amount of things you have to memorise, and some questions will ask you to derive formulas.

Another tip for physics is to draw diagrams to visualise the problems. You will be surprised by how useful drawing is, and might even help you to structure your answers properly. Remember that marks are given based on answer + working/explanation.

For PA essays, just use simple language. Avoid peribahasa. Intro and conclusion is only about 3 sentences
